Wavesfactory Introduces Re-Esser Plugin for Advanced Sibilance Control

15th October 2025

Wavesfactory has announced the release of Re-Esser, a new audio plugin designed to tackle the long-standing challenge of de-essing vocals and dialogue without sacrificing clarity. Known for innovations like Trackspacer and Spectre, the company aims to set a new standard in vocal processing with this latest offering.

Audio engineers have long faced a compromise when de-essing: reducing the harshness of sibilance often meant a noticeable loss of brightness, air, or openness in the audio. Sharp 'S' and 'T' sounds were tamed, but often at the cost of overall fidelity. Re-Esser aims to put an end to this trade-off.

The plugin employs a novel approach that intelligently separates sibilant content from tonal content. This distinction allows each element to be shaped independently, providing engineers with greater control over sibilance without degrading the underlying vocal or dialogue. Wavesfactory states that Re-Esser's detection system is precise enough to potentially replace traditional de-essers in an audio chain, offering more precision and creative freedom.
