Novation Releases Launch Control 3 - Compact MIDI Controller with OLED and 5-pin Connectivity

Novation has announced the release of Launch Control 3, the latest generation of its compact control surface. Positioned as a smaller alternative to the Launch Control XL 3, the unit is designed for tactile parameter manipulation of DAWs, software plugins, and external MIDI hardware in both studio and live environments.

The hardware interface features 16 endless rotary encoders equipped with adjustable acceleration curves and RGB status indicators. A newly integrated OLED display provides real-time visual feedback of parameter values and assignments. For hardware integration, the device includes 5-pin MIDI In, Out, and Out2/Thru connections, allowing for comprehensive MIDI routing and filtering options that function with or without a computer host.

Software Integration and Customization

Launch Control 3 offers native integration with major DAWs including Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Cubase, and Bitwig. It also supports the Mackie HUI protocol for compatibility with Pro Tools and other recording software. Using the Novation Components editor, users can create and store up to seven Custom Modes, mapping MIDI parameters to the encoders and the eight assignable buttons.

In DAW environments, the eight buttons can be configured for standard transport and track functions such as Solo, Arm, Mute, or Track Select, or remapped to specific user functions via the editor.
