FXpansion announces VST to AudioUnit Adapter for Mac OS X

4th April 2003

FXpansion is pleased to announce their highly-anticipated VST-to-AudioUnit plug-in adapter for Mac OS X users.

The VST-to-Audio Adapter allows users of Logic Audio 5.x / 6, Digital Performer 4 and other AudioUnit-compatible applications to use the long and growing list of Mac OS X-compatible VST effects plug-ins and instruments, from vendors such as Steinberg, Waves, TC-Works, Prosoniq, LinPlug, MDA, reFX, DSound, PSP, Waldorf and INA-GRM.

Once installed, the adapter is invisible to the user - plug-ins load and behave exactly like native AudioUnits, reaping the full low-latency benefits of Apple's advanced plug-in architecture. Thanks to its high-efficiency design, CPU overhead from the wrapper is so low as to be practically non-existent - less than 0.1% per instance on a 550MHz PowerBook G4.

FXpansion's Technical Director, Angus Hewlett, explains:
"Apple's AudioUnit architecture is the leading next-generation plug-in architecture, and has many benefits. As the leading developer of plug-in adapter technology, we are ideally placed to offer a bridge to the huge selection of existing plug-ins in the Steinberg VST format. Our technology provides an unprecedented degree of integration - the VST plug-ins are converted 'on the fly' to true AudioUnits, and from the user's perspective behave identically to native AudioUnit plug-ins."

The VST to AudioUnit Adapter ships in April, and is available for preorder from FXpansion's web site at http://www.fxpansion.com, priced just $75.00 / Eu75,-- plus taxes where applicable.
