BTE Audio releases BEQ4 - British Console Equaliser Algorithm for Software Developers

BTE Audio has extended its line of Equalization Algorithms with the BEQ4, a high performance digital equalization algorithm that simulates the sound and feel of the world-renowned British Mixing Consoles of the 1980s. BTE Audio claims that, with its proprietary topology, the BEQ4 algorithm simultaneously achieves both absolute sonic accuracy and extremely high processing efficiency. Targeted at desktop and embedded professional audio applications, the BEQ4 algorithm will enable "quality-conscious third-parties to incorporate the highly revered British EQ sound into their products".

BEQ4 - British Console Equaliser Algorithm

The smooth and versatile channel equaliser modules designed for British consoles in the early 1980s have set the standard for large-format console equalisers. The BEQ4 Algorithm accurately and efficiently simulates the latest version of these modules in the digital domain with its meticulously designed topology.

BEQ4 British Console Equaliser Algorithm features four overlapping bands and low pass/high pass filters which have the following specifications:

• High Pass Filter: 18dB per octave slope. Cutoff Frequency is continuously variable from 20Hz to 350Hz.
• Low Pass Filter: 18dB per octave slope. Cutoff Frequency is continuously variable from 3kHz to 20kHz.
• Low Frequency Shelving/Peaking: Selectable filter type: Shelving or Peaking. Center Frequency is continuously variable from 40Hz to 450Hz. The amount of boost or attenuation is continuously variable from -18 dB to 18 dB in Peaking mode and from -15 dB to 15 dB in Shelving mode.
• Low Mid Frequency Peaking: Center Frequency is continuously variable from 160Hz to 2.2kHz. Quality Factor(Q) is continuously variable from 0.5 to 4.5. The amount of boost is continuously variable from 0 dB to 18 dB at highest Q setting and from 0 dB to 15 dB at lowest Q setting. And the amount of attenuation is continuously variable from 0 dB to -18 dB at highest Q setting and from 0 dB to -15 dB at lowest Q setting.
• High Mid Frequency Peaking: Center Frequency is continuously variable from 600Hz to 10kHz. Quality Factor(Q) is continuously variable from 0.5 to 4.5. The amount of boost is continuously variable from 0 dB to 18 dB at highest Q setting and from 0 dB to 15 dB at lowest Q setting. And the amount of attenuation is continuously variable from 0 dB to -18 dB at highest Q setting and from 0 dB to -15 dB at lowest Q setting.
• High Frequency Shelving/Peaking: Selectable filter type: Shelving or Peaking. Center Frequency is continuously variable from 1.5kHz to 20kHz. The amount of boost or attenuation is continuously variable from -18 dB to 18 dB in Peaking mode and from -15 dB to 15 dB in Shelving mode.
