Beatbox Instruments, an Austin-based Babson startup, has announced plans to release an Educational DIY Music Production Controller and bring production samples to NAMM 2019 in Anaheim, California from January 24-27.

Here's what they say:

The Beatbox controller will be an affordable, effective, fun and educational solution for students of all-ages to start music production and performance. The value proposition of Beatbox Instruments is to provide a cheaper alternative to current music production equipment that is all-inclusive, including educational and customization aspects.

The DIY MIDI drum machine and speaker combo will be housed in a cardboard box and bundled with application, sound packs and tutorials. The Beatbox features 16 30mm high grade SANWA arcade buttons for the performance pads, 8 24mm arcade buttons for various programmable functions, 4 rotary encoders for parameter controls and a joystick for menu navigation. Inside of the box, there is a 50w+50w class D amplifier with two 50w speakers and a 6000mAh 12v rechargeable battery pack. In a testing timed environment, the Beatbox assembly process took two 10-year-old students an hour to build.

The final designs for the Beatbox instrument are currently being drafted and production samples are currently being manufactured. While at NAMM January 24-27, Beatbox Instruments will be exhibiting at Hall E, Booth #1741 and prototype models will be available for demonstration in-booth.

Beatbox plans to begin a Kickstarter in late-February 2019 with a funded goal and final product release by Fall 2019.
