Soundpaint has announced a major new release of their free instrument and sampling plug-in.

Soundpaint 2.5 enables composers, producers and performers to play sampled instruments with more realism than before thanks to the second generation of Soundpaint's Hyper-Acoustic Legato technology. It also includes numerous workflow enhancements to further shorten the time from idea to creation, including a reimagined approach to keyswitching.

The Soundpaint store currently offers more than 120 deep-sampled instruments, almost all priced below $50. These instruments cover a wide variety of categories, including hybrid cinematic tools, woodwinds, brass, classic synths, soulful guitars, and more.

The reaction we get from every music maker who experiences Soundpaint is extraordinary. They just love how much more connected they feel to instruments; how much more expressive they are to play. With 2.5 we're really opening things up for the full range of orchestral instruments - to give composers around the world that same feeling of connection, with unrivaled realism thanks to the second generation of our legato technology. We've also added a whole raft of workflow improvements to make using Soundpaint even faster and more intuitive, and to spark musical ideas by combining instruments in new and exciting ways.

The legato functionality inside Soundpaint now extends to the full range of orchestral instruments and choirs. Musicians can take advantage of high-fidelity polyphonic legato when playing instruments with sustain – such as strings and brass – without the phasing artifacts associated with current legato technology.

A new Parts Randomiser "provides musicians with instant inspiration by combining parts from different instruments to suggest never-heard before sounds". This feature can be paired with Soundpaint's unique instrument morphing technology for even more inspirational possibilities.

One of Soundpaint's unique features is that it intelligently upscales the resolution of velocity layers for any instrument – irrespective of how many velocity layers were originally sampled. So instruments sound incredibly lifelike when played softly, loudly and everywhere in between.

Velocity Zoom builds on this technology further by enabling users to 'zoom in' on a chosen velocity range and generate even more detail. As a result, musicians can pick a 'sweet spot' velocity range – where they feel an instrument sounds best – and add even more expressive realism.

In addition to these new sonic features, Soundpaint 2.5 includes a wealth of usability improvements to accelerate users workflows. These include a doubling of the number of available parts from 4 to 8 for advanced instrument design, a new Story module to add typed notes to any program, an enhanced instrument browser for easier sound discovery, and a new visual keyboard with easy labeling.

Soundpaint 2.5 is available to download now for free.
