Whitebox has updated Pixiphone, an ambient Max4Live instrument that models a child's toy then enlarges it with spectral delay, reverb, brightness, hit strength, attack and decay. It is designed to provide interesting results that range from ethereal vibraphones to metallic mallets to tinkling bells.
The heart of the device is a re-work of Pluggo's Big Ben Bell to create 8 new preset tones. 8 controls on the outside are complemented by access to more on the inside to further customise the sound.
Grouped with two M4L envelope followers to randomise brightness and spectral delay, teamed with a random auto filter, this Live Rack delivers plenty of variations on the basic instrument.
Price: Free. Ableton Live 9 and Max for Live required.
