Classic Chorus

This free chorus plugin sounds absolutely great, not any worse than the commercial Kjaerhus GMO (which imo means: it's the best chorus available as a VST plugin at the moment). Actually, I prefer it over the GMO (don't need 192 kHz support and oversampling) since if you are going just for a chorus in the Classic Chorus you have all what you need and nothing unneccessary, while GMO is a little more complicated. So I decided to stick with the classic series instead od getting GMO. However, I would any time be ready to pay (a reasonable price) for this plugin. Since it's free the vfm has to be unbeatable.

Feature-wise everything is there what you need to tweak the sound, maybe a phase control and a selection for the lfo-type would be nice, but it's not a must. the documentation provided is minimalistic but, anyway, a doc is not really nedded for this.

I never needed customer support so I can't rate it worse than 10, and the plug was very stable on my system so far.

The presets are good, but some more would be great. however, just play with the nobs and you will get the sound you are seeking.

It lost some points on things like documentation, but really you shouldn't need any manual with this - it's designed as an easy to use, but good quality studio essential chorus and it delivers in spades. It is meant to be straight-forward and it is - I particularly like the GUI - no bells and whistles and gimmicks to get in the way - it's obvious what each knob does.

Sound - the main focus. It can be used on pretty well anything and sits very nicely in a mix - it's not too artificial sounding, although if used in extreme it can give your desired effect. There is no glitching - used to be some problems with CPU spikes and noise bursts etc. but it's been regularly updated and is now rock solid. Excellent support there, then.

As a studio basic essential it has squarely achieved its aim (like most of the other Classic series plugins). It will thicken up pads nicely, swirls around to the right amount and is good enough to be used as a 100% wet effect as an insert if you want. Try it on any instrument and you won't be disappointed.

I have only one minor complaint, which is that the delay seems to be set into discrete steps rather than continuously adjustable, but that is a minor irritation indeed - the step are set at useable increments.

It's not a mega modulation do-it-all mod FX but it isn't designed to be - it's easy to use, does what it says on the box and can be used in several instances as sends or inserts as it uses so little CPU, so you don't have to worry about rendering to audio. I applaud the developer for his idea of straight-forward studio basics with no frills, but all the real things that you need on a day to day basis. It happily sits next to more expensive s/w and h/w choruses which few plugins, especially freebies, can achieve.

A shortish review, but it's not a huge plugin that needs in depth reviewing. Simply put, you'd be stupid not to have this one in your plugin folder - I've had many s/w choruses and the Classic chorus is now one of only 2 that I regularly use. In fact I never use any of my h/w choruses nowadays, because apart from some very fine detail and the ability to program in more channels of chorus, they don't improve on the thickening effect this one gives for everyday use.

Kjaerhus Audio is taking the concept of bread and butter plug-in effects to the next level in terms of sound quality. This is probably the best, most lush sounding chorus effect on the VST scene, even when one compares it against commercial offerings. The GUI is functional, though looks a tad bit like an old 80s bit of 1/2 space rack equipment, and looks almomst exactly like all the other Kjaerhus Audio GUI's making it hard to distinguish it from the others so it lost two points from me there. Also it seems to lack a proper manual, though anyone who has used a chorus effect in the past will have no trouble figuring out how to use this. But these are my only qualms, and it's the sound the counts most and this where this chorus really excells. In all honesty I've never been a big fan of chorus effects in general, but this plug-in has me running vocals, guitars, basses, and keys through them like there's no tomorrow (ok I'm exagerating a bit, but suddenly I really do like choruses). Anyone using VST effects should have this chorus on their hard drive.Read Review

I have no negative comments about this free little plugin. It sounds great, its free, the CPU useage is minimal, the GUI is clear and functional, and it seems to end up in every tune I make at the moment.

It excells at adding a touch of width and weight to anything you apply it to, but it can also be quite unsubtle if desired.

There really isn't much more to say than that.

Try this !
It looks and works like a grown-up hardwarechoruseffect and is as stable as one.
The sound is smooth, no clicks or crackles or artefacts and uses CPU close to none.
The features are bread-and-butter, no fancy stuff.
The presets are covering the most common uses and you don't have to tweak a lot to get the chorus you're looking for.
