The 1970s Hayman Vibrasonic Kit - One Shot Sample Pack as mixed by Stephen Street (Blur / The Smiths) is our starter pack for this kit. It comes with just one sample of each articulation as 24-bit and 16-bit WAVs. If you want a cheap way of checking the sound of this kit or don't need multiple velocities and want a versatile classic British 70s kit as mixed by one of the UK's best mix engineers then look no further.

This Hayman kit is a great representation of a classic British 70s kit. Hayman only existed for about 15 years but they built some great kits in that time, mainly to counter the American kits such as Ludwig and Gretsch that were being imported.

This kit was recorded at the same time as the Ludwig Super Classic in Miloco's The Square studio in London. We recorded both kits for a 70s Americana drum tracks album called Route Seventy Sticks. The Hayman was played by Tim Weller and recorded by Drumdrops engineer Ben Thackeray. To add to the British flavour of this kit we asked the incredible Stephen Street (Blur, The Smiths, Kaiser Chiefs) to mix it.

There are few people living in the UK who will not have heard a Stephen Street record. His legendary creative production style has contributed to some of the most iconic records by UK bands and artists of the past three decades, including The Smiths, Blur, New Order, Pete Doherty, Kaiser Chiefs and countless other platinum-selling acts. Stephen mixed this kit in his own studio The Bunker.

The particular kit we sampled is from around 1970 and was their standard five piece kit comprising of a 22" x 14" bass drum, 12" x 8" and 13" x 9" toms and a 16" x 16" floor tom. It's in a rather fetching metallic blue finish, though you might not be able to tell this from the samples. The snares that we sampled with this kit are two of the best ever produced... The metal shelled Ludwig 400 and the wooden Slingerland radio king. The cymbals used were all old sixties and seventies models commonly used at the time. The hihats were made by an English company called Zyn. The ride we used is an old Tosco 20" ride, thin and washy but with just enough ping to let rhythms cut through. The crash we used is made by Paiste a Swiss company, and this is an 18" medium from their popular 2002 range which was introduced in the 1970s.

The "One-Shot Sample pack" is perfect for customers who want to check out the sound of this kit or only need one velocity of each sample. The pack includes one velocity of each articulation totalling 38 drum samples. These samples come as 24-bit WAVs and 16-bit WAVs for the legacy drum machines. All of the samples are mixed from a combination of the overhead, room and close mics.

The One Shot Sample Pack of the Stephen Street mixed 1970s Hayman Vibrasonic Kit is available exclusively from the Drumdrops store for £ 5.00. Head over here to find out more.
