Acolyte is a monophonic synthesizer intended for the novice starting out on his/her voyage into the realm of sound creation.

Based on the classic Yamaha CS-01, it features a 1 VCO / 1 VCF / 1 ENV / 1 LFO architecture and a clear, intuitive front panel layout.

Like the original CS-01, it has no patch memories, allowing the player to find his/her own path to the sound he/she seeks.

the output is kind of weak, only -11.1db MAX using Savihost. this will make a bad first impression.

The Envelope fader does nothing. It does not alter the filter in any way you would expect. Could you possibly fix that? I do like this synth. Also modulation the filter with the LFO doesnt seem to work either, and not PWM. Cheers. :)

the duct tape on the envelope fader must have come loose again... as for the LFO modulation, it's routed through the mod wheel, so if your mod wheel is set to 0, then the mod slider has no effect. I'm thinking of adding a direct/wheel routing switch.

Yes please add some kind of direct/wheel routing switch. My portable AKAI LPK25 controller doesn't even have a mod wheel, so I can't use LFO modulation at all with it.

And please fix the Filter env fader too asap. Cranking the volume up is also a great idea btw :-)

What is the use of the GATE option on the VCA? It's so clicky, I always turn it to adsr env for best results. Could it be set to env on default perhaps? That would help, especially for first impressions of the synth ;-)

Good sounding simple little synth though with low CPU print, I like it. Works very well for "chipsounds" too. And so small in size (560kb).

The GATE can be used instead of the Envelope. Great if you only want to control the filter.

And yes. Fix the Env fader.

I've been working with Transonic Audio, the division across the hall, for the last month on the latest version of their digital audio recorder, which has taken up all of my time. But I already have improvements in mind for Acolyte as well as another instrument with expanded capabilities. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for the continued interest.

While working on the next version of Acolyte, as well as its upcoming polyphonic successor, "Wizard", I imagined a development platform more suited to the specific needs of VST creation than the general purpose tools I used for writing the first version of Acolyte. Therefore, I have been pouring all my available coding hours recently into the latest Transonic project "Audion", which you can follow on this KVR page here: https://www.kvraudio.com/product/audion-by-transonic.
If I'm not posting updates here, then I hope to be posting updates there, since the development of these products is intertwined. As always, thanks for listening.
