At its core, the 512v utilizes the same traditional circuit as its predecessors, featuring the legendary API 2520 discrete op-amp and a proprietary output transformer. These components are responsible for its signature sound and impressive headroom. The most significant addition to the 512v is a variable output level control. This allows you to drive the preamp's gain stage harder to achieve rich analog saturation and harmonic coloration, while simultaneously attenuating the output signal to prevent clipping your converters. This "gain staging" flexibility opens up a vast palette of tonal possibilities. The module also features a 3:1 output transformer tap selection, which changes the character of the output stage for even more sonic variety.
