Im using Phalanx every day in most of my Productions. I bought also all Expansions...great Stuff.
Easy to use but a lot of functions to tweak your sounds.

Big Plus is the Single Version for Logic Pro :)

I purchased the latest premium version 1.5.3 after seeing videos of the program; looking at some trailers and reading reviews in the music press.

It turned out not to be what I was expecting.

Downloading the program is fairly straightforward because the file size is small (around 1GB in total combining the basic and premium content). So the program has the potential to have a small footprint on your hard drive even after purchasing the various expansion packs.

I only managed to get the AU variant of Phalanx working in my DAW (Studio One). The VST3 version acted rather oddly. It wouldn't playback samples as they sounded when using preview in the Library. Kick drums sounded very distorted and only through the left channel.

In the reviews I read (Computer Music for example) there were comments about the workflow for Phalanx being really good. This is not what I found. Apart from the issues with the VST3 version, I've realised that Phalanx has a steeper learning curve than I expected. It's not a program that rewards the user quickly.

I suggest anyone looking to purchase Phalanx should try a demo first.

Sounds like you should have followed your own advice and tried the demo first. I've made the same mistake with plugins myself in the past and not demo'ed them for long enough before buying.

IMO Phalanx is the perfect (one-shot) sampler for daw which doesn't have such a tool. It's not a no-brainer, so it doesn't aim for rookies but for demanding users. You need 1-2 days to get into it, but when you got the idea, you won't find anything better out there.

lacking sequencer, 4-8 layers and time stretching.

It has now an arpeggio and trance gate for each individual part. That's at least a start. I've tried my demo for 3/5 days, and I'm seriously considering buying Phalanx.
