EZkeys was released by Toontrack on March 13, 2012. After receiving my e-mail notification and a quick look at the specs, I purchased a copy. EZkeys is just the sort of songwriting/music composition tool I was looking for. Like its name promises, EZkeys is both simple and quick to use -- did not even both with the manual -- and I was able to assemble with the 64-bit standalone version a 3-minute 66BPM ballad from the MIDI library. I used only a few of the features and they worked as advertised: randomize a MIDI part so new chords are generated on the fly or use the chord wheel when clicking on a chord segment within a MIDI to pick a new chord. I only have a rudimentary understanding of music theory and rely a lot on my ear and trial and error. EZkeys let me export my MIDI song and import it into my favorite DAWS (SONAR X1 Producer Expanded). The EZkeys VSTi plugin worked just as well as the standalone. The only sour note was during MIDI playback in SONAR near the end there was a bit of audio stutter. I froze the EZkeys VSTi, however, and the audio track sounds perfect. I'm sold on EZkeys and highly recommend it for anyone looking for a safe, reliable and easy entry into keyboard work. Thank you very much Toontrack for another tremendous tool! PS: I don't work Toontrack and this is not a paid endorsement.
