Femi Koleoso is a renowned British drummer and DJ. Born and raised in North London, he is the bandleader and drummer of the award-winning London group Ezra Collective. Alongside his deep involvement in the London Jazz scene, Femi spent a number of years as a student of the legendary afrobeat drummer, Tony Allen. In recent years Femi has toured and recorded with the likes of Gorillaz, Jorja Smith and Pharoahe Monch. This pack aims to showcase some of Femi's key drumming styles, incorporating a high-energy blend of afrobeat, hip hop, grime, jazz, and afro-cuban beats.
To authentically capture Femi's drum sound, we chose to record at Miloco's own North London base, Livingston Studios, which has been the recording facility of choice for Ezra Collective since early 2020. We also enlisted the skills of engineer Ricky Damian, who as well as Ezra Collective, engineered for heavy hitting producer Mark Ronson for a number of years. Ricky has spent many hours at the helm of the 72 channel SSL G series console at Livingston, and chose an assortment of modern and vintage microphones and outboard in order to achieve a warm, old school flavoured drum sound that can still hold it's own alongside other modern drum recordings. The kit used was a Vintage Ludwig Hollywood, Ludwig 400 Snare, and a selection of Fem's own cymbals all of which can be heard on Ezra Collective's upcoming album "Where I'm Meant To Be".
