Protoplug

Create audio plugins on-the-fly with LuaJIT.

Protoplug is a plugin that lets you load and edit Lua scripts as audio effects and instruments. Scripts can process audio and MIDI, draw their own interface, and use external libraries. It turns a DAW into a live coding environment for audio.

This fork modernizes Protoplug.

Supported Plugin Formats:

macOS (Universal: Intel & Apple Silicon): AUv2, CLAP, VST3.

Windows (x86_64 only): CLAP, VST3.

Linux (x86_64 only): LV2, CLAP, VST3.

What's new?:

• Migrated from JUCE 5 to JUCE 8 (since version 1.5.0): The whole code has been migrated to JUCE 8 to support modern platforms.
• Universal Binaries for macOS (since version 1.5.0): New universal macOS binaries that support both x86_64 (Intel) and arm64 (Apple Silicon) macOS systems.
• Recreated library files using JUCE 8 (since version 1.5.0): Library files recreated from scratch using JUCE 8 for all platforms.
• Multi-channel Support (since version 1.6.0): Audio layouts up to 64 channels are supported where the host and plugin format allow them. Existing stereo scripts continue to work, while multi-channel scripts can use plugin.numChannels, plugin.numInputChannels, plugin.numOutputChannels, or the multiIO helper.
• MIDI Event Constructor Issue Resolved (since version 1.6.0): Fixed the MIDI event constructor issue that the original protoplug code had.

The metadata has been knowingly kept the same so that old projects created using the original Protoplug can now use this new version, and at the day this should be treated as the continuation of OSAR protoplug in spirit instead of a new release.
