I have just uninstalled this horrible thing from my PC for good. Even though this has left me samplerless (that alone shows you what I think of it)! I will just have to take my pick out of the many freeware samplers that have popped up this lately, but I had to uninstall it...it was affecting the rest of my set-up!

Volkszampler takes an age to load up. This is not so bad if one doesnt ever use it - wrong! It loads up on its own for no apparent reason even when it is not in the default start-up file of your host. Because it tries to load itself on start-up of the host it often causes the host start-up to slow down so much that the computer will crash.

The GUI is bad too as it opens a new window for each part of the sampler and it also gives you a really bad cursor which is really ghard to use accurately.

This thing is not worth having...

probably a nice sampler, but how can you tell when its functions are spread over 8749874 windows :-)

i dunno - i got the full version and used it during a song production. it sure did everything a basic sampler needs to do, but everything i did took sooo long with this user interface, and i dont really appreciate a plugin that fills the entire screen with sub and sub sub windows that are all set to "always on top"! :-)

filter is so-so, the CPU usage is *very* bad. much less efficient than vsampler for example, which performs almost twice as good on my system.

maybe if creamware redid the GUI and optimized the CPU usage i would have to rewrite this review (and it might actually be a pretty positive one then), but for the time being, all i can say is that this thing isnt as good as the competition and thus cant really be recommended.

sure, its freeware, but i do get the feeling this thing is so CPU hungry to make the user think "oh man i need creamware DSPs" LOL :-)

Well, the interface seems to be a matter of taste. But personally, I like this sampler very much. Sure, the promotinal copy is a CPU hog and has some small bugs and glitches, but overall it's a nice tool to work with. And (quoted from the CW homepage) "Not to mention its sensational priceā€¦" :)

For the "full price" of $129 they should do some improvements, though.

It has a different user interface to all the common VSTi. You have to get used to it - but then it is very nice to work with. For this value of money you'll get anything you need. The CPU usage is not that bad (since the latest updates!!!!!!).
BUT: it has a few minor bugs I've reported to Creamware "Centuries" ago - but they didn't noticed it until today (oct. 2002). I don't use this piece anymore.
AND: When you have Pulsar XTC the Volkszampler is no TRUE VST INSTRUMENT. When you're not in XTC MODE YOU CAN'T START THIS SOFTWARE-SAMPLER - ?!?!?!?!
