The Make Noise Wogglebug is a complete random voltage generation system and a classic source of controlled chaos for any Eurorack modular synthesizer. Based on the "smooth" and "stepped" random voltage concepts pioneered by Don Buchla, the Wogglebug is far more than a simple sample-and-hold circuit. It is a complex analog system that generates multiple, musically-related random CV signals simultaneously, perfect for adding life, unpredictability, and generative movement to any patch. It's the go-to module for creating evolving textures, random melodies, and chaotic rhythms.
The Wogglebug is centered around a core Voltage Controlled Clock. This clock drives all the other functions and can be influenced by external CV, allowing the rate of randomness to be modulated. The module produces three main types of random voltage. The "Woggle" output provides a smoothly fluctuating, chaotic voltage. The "Stepped" output provides classic sample-and-hold style random voltages, with its own CV input for influencing the probability distribution. Finally, the "Smooth" output is a slewed version of the Stepped output, creating gliding, random CV signals. In addition to these CV sources, the Wogglebug also features two audio-rate outputs (Woggle Tone and Ring Mod) for creating noisy, percussive sounds and a "Burst" output that generates random gates. It's an indispensable tool for breaking out of static patterns and injecting organic variation into your music.
