VSL releases Synchron Solo Violin 1 (sordino) and Synchron Solo Cello (sordino)

VSL has announced the release of the first muted entries in their solo strings catalog, Synchron Solo Violin 1 (Sordino) and Synchron Solo Cello (Sordino), capturing the full expressive range of bridge-muted string playing in dedicated libraries recorded on the large Stage A at Vienna Synchron Stage.

Performed by Vienna Synchron Orchestra concertmaster Marina Dimitrova and first chair cellist Florian Eggner, both collections mirror the articulation depth of the original Synchron Solo Strings. Short notes include spiccato, staccato, détaché, ricochet, and saltando; long notes cover multiple attack and release variants with slides; legato options span normal, agile, slurred, portamento, and zigane. Sforzatos, tremolos, trills, harmonics, and pizzicatos complete the sets.

Every note was recorded with the mute fitted at the bridge rather than processed from a dry signal, a distinction that shapes how performers approach bow pressure and phrasing. The libraries cover the same tonal territory as a composer would reach for in intimate film cues, chamber writing, and passages that call for a warmer, more recessed string character.

Both collections load in the Vienna Synchron Player, which includes the Crossfade Editor for blending between articulations. They sit alongside existing Synchron Solo Strings sessions without session reconfiguration.

Coinciding with the release, VSL has added sul tasto and sul ponticello articulations to the original Synchron Solo Violin 1 and Synchron Solo Cello libraries. Existing users receive these additions automatically at no charge.

Synchron Solo Strings Bundle (Sordino)

The two new libraries are also available as part of the Synchron Solo Strings Bundle (Sordino), which will cover all four string quartet voices: violin 1 (Marina Dimitrova), violin 2 (Damir Oraščanin), viola (Anna Firsanova), and cello (Florian Eggner). Synchron Solo Violin 2 (Sordino) and Synchron Solo Viola (Sordino) are scheduled for August 2026 and will appear automatically in Vienna Assistant for bundle purchasers upon release. An Early Bird Offer applies an additional 10% discount on top of current introductory bundle pricing through the early access period.
