Installed and amazed - I know what I'm doing the rest of today
It's particularly good for those really complex patches that even the creator has only managed to make one preset for I've managed to generate full variation sets for several already - you can explore some cool sonic spaces with this. And its designed the way I've always wanted VSTi patch randomisation to work - you can actually see visually how a patch is going to sound and juggle selected patches around to breed from.

Kudos to Clavia and Palle Dahlstedt...it's just a fantastic addition.I can see why it has taken so long.I'm sure they will continue to refine and add to it further as time goes by in as far as is practicable......the realtime sonic breeding/morphing using the Patch Mutator really shows just how much mileage can be had from complex patches and lets you explore so many possibilities with minimal effort. The surprise element is so much fun.
I hope someday they do release the G2 as a full on software version especially with the dual core chips and ever increasing power.

Anyone with a powerful enough PC and decent soundcard (it has to be run at 96khz) can get a lot of useage out of the free software version - its more than a demo really; you can create and save patches and even with the mono limitation you can create some amazing sounds (many patches sound best in mono anyway such as Glass cathedral). I used the demo for ages before buying the hardware and you can easily record its output even if its not a plugin. Its a really generous freebie.

Definately.....I sold my Micro Modular with some regret then found the G2 demo not too long after. Yeah man, I used it before and it's quite a cool free stand alone synth. I didn't know it was running at 96khz though. That's why it using so much cpu. Still great though and fun to build synths with it.

2 synths I can think would benefit enormously from this sort of patch randomisation would be Symptohm Melohman and Reaktor. Melohman uses a similar system of a number of variations per patch (though in Symptohm its 12 not to make a Metapatch so being able to generate a bunch of variations this way and then choose the best and breed between and visually morph interpolate between them would be brilliant. And although Reaktor does have a good morphing and randomise feature this would enable even more control and creativity plus the digital DNA metaphor makes it very visual.
c'mon Ohmies - please add this to the next Melohman update

This sounds extremely cool! Sounds like something that would be right up my alley.. though the g2 modular is an expensive beast, anyone have any experiences with the g2 engine?
Does the software demo of this thing have the mutation feature as well?

Yes it does - you can even save patches and also load most patches from the user library apart from th=ose that use the few modules not included. Its really 90% functional and a great freebie.
I have the engine and find it perfectly useable with a decent midi controller (mine has better key action than the one that comes with the Korg anyway) and Phatboy 2 for some hands on knob tweaking.
