Are there are VST's similar to the Nord Wave in features/functionality?

I'm no expert on the Nord Lead, but I do own DiscoDSP Discovery which is modeled on the Nord. Here's a comparison:

That video is a pretty good example of how different they are. Also, what does this have to do with the Nord Wave? The OP didn't mention "Nord Lead" anywhere.

By looking at the specs of the Nord Wave, it looks like a Nord Lead with the ability to play sampled waveforms.
I think most of its functionality can be obtained with softsynths like Wusikstation or Rapture. Particularly, Wusikstation has pretty good modulation options. Another option is to use a good sampler like ShortCircuit (which is now free).

I can't think of any softsynth that can do FM and PM with sampled wave as a carrierfac wrote:By looking at the specs of the Nord Wave, it looks like a Nord Lead with the ability to play sampled waveforms.

there are more than a couple that can do FM with samples; Rhino's been doing it for years.Megakazbek wrote: I can't think of any softsynth that can do FM and PM with sampled wave as a carrier
As for 'PM' what do you mean? Physical modelling? What would 'the carrier' be in that context, thats unfamiliar usage to me; the excitation source perhaps?
my other modular synth is a bugbrand

I believe Megakazbek is referring to Phase Modulation, as opposed to Frequency Modulation.whyterabbyt wrote:As for 'PM' what do you mean? Physical modelling? What would 'the carrier' be in that context, thats unfamiliar usage to me; the excitation source perhaps?

ah, i see. ta. not seen wave-based PM in a fixed-architecture synth, I have to admit, but then yamaha-style FM was PM anyways wasnt it? pretty sure most modular softsynths with wave support can handle it tho.ugo wrote: I believe Megakazbek is referring to Phase Modulation, as opposed to Frequency Modulation.

I think Absynth has a lot of features in common with the Nord Wave. The thing is, Nords have such a characteristic sound it would be tough to reproduce with something other than a Nord. I think they share the same filter as the Lead which is (to me) part of what makes it so identifiable.

Wusikstation does FM, as I'm sure some others do.Megakazbek wrote:I can't think of any softsynth that can do FM and PM with sampled wave as a carrierfac wrote:By looking at the specs of the Nord Wave, it looks like a Nord Lead with the ability to play sampled waveforms.

PM (phase modulation) I'm not sure, but there may be some.
In any case, I said "most of the nord wave functionality can be obtained with softsynths"... key word being "most"
