But would also mean having to make my own patches, which I'm not interested in, so I'm back to square one. The M1, which I also bought, I found I'm not that trilled with either. It seems the "Gen 1" of digital synthesis genreally doens't interest me, but the "Gen 2" like the Roland JV-1080 and Korg N and W series, and the like, do interest me. To be fair, I havne't had a lot of time to sit down with the M1 yet. The Wavestation, on the other hand, I still do like, as I had bought one back around 1999 I think it was.beej wrote:This is also true of the M1, to be honest. However, there are nice things in there, and once you "bend" it to fit in today, it still manages to surprise. In fact, the new KLC bank in the M1 Legacy shows you what a fresh perspective has on the voicing - thes patches were done specifically for the Legacy M1 by Korg.DevonB wrote:The D50 has just too much 'junk' patches. Trumpets, trombones, and other useless sounds from that timeframe.
So don't let the factory patches bias you too much - these instruments can still do interesting things that other synths can't...

Im developing a D50 style VST now, but obviously i didn't use Roland's waves but if you have it , you could load them.
I will add more features to this synth, some of them very innovatives.
Stay tune.

the LA synthesis was nice for those things IMOmao wrote:If you like it's warm spaciuos pads... well buy it. I bought mine years ago... and I bought the MEX expansion... and well... yes still using it. The classic bells, jams, spectrum sounds are boring these days but forget the PCM structure and use it as a real warm spaciuos synth. It's really fat and warm... At the moment I have no vst being able to replicate it's full warm tone. Take a listen to Spacious Sweep preset... it's pure heaven.
i m still in love with the "Soundtrack" preset of my old D10 (and D110)

i WILL stay tuned...
actually i could start out to learn how easily convert those preloaded waveform out of my D10 ...
i kinda remember most of them sounding pretty industrial-ebm-ish as inspiration

I think that samples that you create on their own to stand free from being that obviously roland inspired may lead the path. Rearrange the PCM bank and make drastic changes to how the filter sound and you might be good. For making the 1cycle loops I would go for Cobalt since it actually is imitating a synth from that time allthough it is a Korg it resembles. I think you get the point.nusonica wrote:Im developing a D50 style VST now, but obviously i didn't use Roland's waves but if you have it , you could load them.

I'm still hoping for a Roland D50/JD990 VST to come out one day.
Seeing as Arturia have some "relationship" with Roland (JP8V), I hope they build on this....

BTW guys I'm selling my VariOS module+D50 card for $475 right now (includes free US domestic shipping). The integration between the VariOS software running the D50 emulation and most sequencers is pretty damn close to using a plug-in. Plus, you can use the module without a computer in your live keyboard rig as well since it responds to external MIDI CC messages.
PM me if any of you guys are interested.

Hello, I'm french^^.
I realized two programs for the D50.
One is called RickyD50 (free) EXE:
A program in VB 2008 Express (. NET Framework 3.5). It can communicate with the D50, import / export files sysex.
There is a database to sort the different styles of patches.
A graphical interface where all changes are sent directly to the D50.
The second is called MPlugD50 VSTi/EXE:
I just finished the first version with SynthMaker, it is in test.
There are still some bugs, such as CPU load for example.
One thing I did not know how are the Reverse Gates^^.
Many parameters still need to be calibrated. Sounds a little like those of D50 ^ ^.
You can download this on http://www.rickforce.fr (http://www.rickforce.fr)
(sorry, my site is in French only for now )
Eric,
Bye

I had a Roland D20, from 89 to 06, and programed alot of sounds on it. It had a floppy disk and a sequencer. I got some great sounds out of it. I don't miss it thou...the small led window sucked for programing. I only use Zebra now.

Eric,
Bye
I searched and couldn't find it in the database. Might be an unknown Roland D-50 type synth.
Here's his site translated from French to English through Babelfish http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_ur ... =Translate
Looks like it's still kind of in beta form but I found this comment interesting "resembles the sounds of D50 vaguely (I leave you judge), it is compatible with the sysex of D50."

How awesome!
Is this a demo or a freebie? The (translated) site didn't really touch that, unless I missed something.
