sr202...i love that plugin.

ds404: that was a plugin i always wanted to use,
i wanted a good easy sampler, but i found the navigation
frustrating. you could rebuild that one. it just ended up
as a potential receptacle for the(few)prog's released for it.
(i know all the functions are there, but you click the
wrong button and have to go round the navigation again,
argh)

cm303: this is one of my longstanding VST questions:
the gui doesn't work unless automated, right? (is this wrong?)

oh yeah...sr202...i love that plugin. it makes me want
to pick up another sr16 (lol) so i can have some decent
sounds on it. (not, in fact a joke: i always liked the
hr16/sr16 programming)
I think there are plenty of SR16 samples out there, I have a whole pack of 'em somewhere.
i'd ditch the facebook.
really.
'unsound'
i could write you an essay here about why, but...

anyway, doesn't look like a popular choice here.
(unless you're courting controversy)
It's not popular with a vocal minority, a fraction of a percent. Unfortunately, this is pretty much the standard reaction on KVR to anything Muon has ever done and I'm quite used to it.

The problems with DS404's interface, as I've said many times, were due to having our deadline dramatically pulled in during the development process. We had to change the design pretty radically in order to get it ready for issue 50.

I'm pleased to say however that CMPlay is a much better DS404 file player - much more efficient, more parameters, nice FX and obviously a much better interface.
oh: cm303: this is one of my longstanding VST questions:
the gui doesn't work unless automated, right? (is this wrong?)
i can see creative reasons why to do this, but need confirmation(...)
No, the GUI should work just fine with the mouse. In face it's the automation in CM303 that is crippled compared to Tau Bassline MkII.

Kind regards

oops sorry i was a bit p*ssed when i wrote that, lol.

but i just dislike facebook. not just the nauseating
chumminess of it, because it can turn quite nasty.

and i *passed* a friend's pc the other day, who is
a facebook junkie, and saw someone she had visited,
whom i don't know, and on there, someone i *do* know,
and his comment(mundane) posted for all to see, and it
seems weird, that people's communications are published
in this way.( because i know how seriously evil that
person can be...)

as for facebook policy, i note you cautioning someone to
'ask permission' before using a facebook account, but, like,
it isn't a...passport, or a bank card; it's just a fckn
faddbook account. you are not legally impersonating another
by using a facebook account. it ain't law yet!

facebook itself committed mass plundering of 3rd party email
address books, eg: mass corporate hacking and invasion of privacy,
in its expansionist drive during last year. when pulled up on it,
it claimed the victims of the invasion of privacy were themselves
the perpetrators. wdf. doublespeak or wot? it was bullshit: you
suddenly had the facebook logo all over your email, and were spammed
to join up (like 'everyone else').

in fact they even spammed one of my email accounts with a bogus
account, and that's what i used to grab your plugin..

obviously it depends on your own personal use and experience, how
you view it. but to say it is a 'de facto' part of everyone's
communication paraphenalia these days...it's a form of removal of
choice: you *have to* stay at/attend this f*cking awful party...
---------------------------------------
i still haven't seen CMPlay, and am missing out on a
load of CM freebies- need to get an issue, and can't
find here- so i look forward to checking it out.

and, damn, i'm sure my cm303 did something funny. i'll have
to check it out again.

DS404
I used to use it all the time, alas, I get graphic glitches on my current system (Win7 quadcore PC).
One of the reasons why DS404 was never updated is because CMplay handles DS404 files so well. I would definately give it a try if you can.

Kind regards
Dave
Thx for advice Dave! I think I've bought one of the later issues of CM with CMplay on the cover DVD, gonna give it a try!

It pretty much is de-facto these days, they have enough users and are integrated with enough devices and online services to be pretty much everywhere. Anyone who does marketing for a living is looking at Facebook and thinking "how might we use this thing to benefit our business?"

Anyway, it remains to be seen how well the Facebook page works for us in the future, but so far so good.

As for removal of choice, naturally the best thing for the average KVR punter would be for us to give out all our plugins for free to all comers, asking for nothing in return. But you can't run a business that way unless you are selling those users as the product to someone else, something which I have no intention of ever doing. Maybe someday someone will do google adverts embedded into free VST plugins but it won't be me.

So to be an successful commercial enterprise we have to remove choice to a certain extent and restrict the promotional stuff into channels that have some beneficial impact back to us.

Muon Software Ltd wrote:Just out of interest, I wonder which is the favourite CM/Muon plugin? my favourite, and the one I still use, is SR202. I think I will always use it for drums to the exclusion of everything else :-)
First, thanx for the download. Really appreciate.

And to answer your question, SR202 still is one of my favourite drummachines and the only CM/Muon plug I still use. Will try the 303 again of course. :)

erm, yeah, and i owe you an apology for the 'heckling':
i had a think about it, and it was hypocritical, bcs if free
plugins were commonly available via facebook, i'd probably grab
them anyway.

(i figured you were big'n'bad enough to handle it >;-) )

i still wouldn't want to have an account on there, but since
my little outpouring i feel a lot more chilled out about
the whole thing, so thanks for the 'therapy' anyway! ;p

on another note:
i noticed, in the meantime, that while most people i mention 'VST plugin'
to, look at me blankly, and wander off muttering 'nutter/nerd', uncomp-
rehending when i explain how brilliant it is, that you have all these great
virtual studio machines in software (something the general public seem to
take for granted, in contrast with music technology types whose lives
have been revolutionized and liberated by the removal of need for cables,
power supplies, huge expense, etc etc )...(still a double-happy feeling)

these same people now go: 'oh look, this is brilliant', delighted by some
online audio gadget they have come across: usually 'simple' sample-based
standalone 'things', nicely-designed, but with nothing like the
functionality of the average VST plugin.

so, once people realise what midi really is, beyond a
ringtone or a karaoke file, maybe there'll be millions more VST freaks.
eh.

Hmmm... well if placing this freebie on Facebook was supposed to spark my interest in your brand, then its failed miserably.

I won't be a customer as I won't do Facebook. Why would you assume I as a potential customer would want to "like" your company before I can decide if I "like" how your plugin sounds or works for me?

I've purchased lost of great plugins without ever seeing Farcebook.

But of course its your prerogative.

Good luck with your sales.

you only have to 'like' the page if you want the updated freebie, it has nothing to do with the company/products in general, you can visit the company site and try demo versions if you want.

Actually, no the intention was not to spark your interest in our brand. My company has been around for more than ten years and we simply wanted to do a 10th anniversary version of one of our most famous and popular plugins. It's really for the people who already know this plugin and love it. If a few new people decide to give it a go then that's great too.

The reason for putting it on Facebook is to try a new way of marketing to see if it works for us. Everybody's feedback is very welcome, positive or negative.

Facebook isn't our only channel to market, its an experiment.
Good luck with your sales.
Thanks. We've been around for more than 10 years thanks to the customers who have bought our plugins.

Kind regards
Dave

What happened to Muon Software?

There has hardly been any updates or news since five years ago?

They were bought by Tal, hence Tal Bassline :hihi: To Brazilians it sounds the same anyway 8)

Somehow the gui reminds me of another plugin, but I can't remember which one...

Can you offer citations for that claim?

What I last heard was that he was doing tons of contract work.
