+1 looks great to me tooBronto Scorpio wrote:I really, really like the new GUI to be honest!
It looks very clean, without too much pseudo realistic bullsh*t going on.
Cheers

I don't think it looks cheap at all, it has a very inviting GUI and blends in well with Studio One So far it sounds amazing and I just love the MSEG's for modulation. Everything seems very fluid and ergonomic throughout. I only have one issue, why no intro offer!? I have to save my pennies now
Excellent job Synapse!

I'm guessing you guys that are saying that this thing has a moderate CPU hit are playing the synth in real time (practically), with <5ms buffers, right?
In that case, you probably have audio interfaces with decent drivers. Because, with my E-MU card, the pops are there. The rest of my PC is pretty strong (i7 and all the good stuff), so I guess it's a question of the ASIO driver.
(The CPU hit is rather significant, but I blame the ASIO driver mostly.)

Posted this on their forum too:
hi,
Just upgraded to Dune 2...... happens with both demo and full version.
Windows 7 64bit SP1.
(I did a Microsoft Update this am for IE 11 if this helps, it did once for an NI bug )
running 32 bit Nuendo 6, firstly Dune 2 was put in blacklist....fixed that, but when I try to load Dune2 as an instrument nuendo creates midi track but doesn't actually create an instance of Dune 2.
running 64 bit, Nuendo 6 instantly does a crash with log once I try to create an instance of Dune 2 on a fresh project.
thanks

I'll just say it's definately better than v1, but it didn't immediately make me buy it. Better filters, better wavetables, worse gui. I liked the v1 everything on one screen. Better distortion, phaser still sucks. Crashed S1 Mac 32bit when scanning wavetables, but will continue evaluating.
The system is there because we had a massive spam attack, which I had to manually clear up by myself.
More importantly, thanks for your detailed report.

Pretty good synth, i'm quite impressed by it. Too bad i'm broke this month.
Btw here's a short cheesy demo of it. Your typical EDM sound. The sound is made from scratch and pretty fast just now. I'm not really good with synth programming though. https://soundcloud.com/el_camido/dune2

On Windows, the driver and overall system configuration is extremely important for low-latency multi-threading. Too much stuff running in the background (gaming platforms, big/inefficient AV packages, etc) can hurt performance. I believe that our multi-threading code is as good as it gets- on our PCs we measured worst-case thread switching times in the microsecond range consistently, which means that the voice throughput approaches 4x on a quad core - great for pads.goodkat wrote:I'm guessing you guys that are saying that this thing has a moderate CPU hit are playing the synth in real time (practically), with <5ms buffers, right?

Native Instruments has a great website for optimizing Windows performance:

This is actually what I used for my own PC with success

He's talking about the Synapse forum. I just released both his messages from the block that we have for new users. This was put in place because of the problems we had with spam recently you might remember.Kriminal wrote:are you a mod here now?cytospur wrote:Not spam, just a mechanism to prevent spam. Trying out the demo... enjoying it so far.
Here is a quick audio demo of a pluck preset sound I made. Only 1 VA osc, no unison voices... very simple.

This thing can produce some truly other wordly sounds. The reverb is amazingly usable. Instant soundtrack and cinematic fx when you crank some resonance and start modulating wavetables with MSEG.
I'm starting to really like this.
(I was talking about here KVR, I just registered today since I assume this forum will have more discussion of Dune 2 than gearslutz).
