Loving it to pieces so far. A lot of the presets are pretty good, too, especially some of the extras on the alesis website. Once I figured out a lot of them didn't really open up without the ribbon controller I was very happy.
Rob Papen did some free Andromeda presets - http://www.robpapen.com/andromeda.html

Logic is a pretty flower that smells bad - Spock, in "I, Mudd"

I was playing these last night, actually. Some really great stuff in there. Thanks Rob!

When I heard demos of dotcom from Zon Vern Piles ("The Mystics" and "Don't go") I was blown away - great old school moog type sound.

I also liked demo from this man:Dana Countryman

Very moogy funky Jean-Jacques Perrey sound. If someone told me these demos were done on vintage moog modular I would believed him.I believe this dotcom thing is all moog power but without hastle of tuning :D
Can velocity, pitch bender(or ribbon controller),aftertouch.... be integrated with these sistems?

OLD THREAD

I love the 303 sounds that are possible! really lovely! the design of the synth iteslf, well, to me it's too futuristic, but on the other side a huge display with lovely graphic representations of the envelopes etc.

and a step sequencer!

I have the micron which is the same thing as the ion other than the number of keys and the interface itself. Synthesis engine is all the same. Whatt do I think of it? At first I pluuged it in and ran through the factory presets, and they were probably some of the worse f**king factory presets I ever heard. But after getting under the hood, this thing blew me away. 3 LFO's, 3 Envelopes, Ability to create your own Wave so you can route that to something for even more modulation and mayhem. Nearly 17 filters types, including oberheim,303,moog,ARP,jupiter,formant filters, and Alesis filters, combs filters, and a filter type I never heard of :phase warp. It has reverb, delay, fuzz pedal, distortion, all different types of FX, FM as well, so you're not stuck with just one synthesis type. I recally cannot comment on the FM as I have yet to do anything with it though. So once I got to making my own sounds I had no lack of tools to get down with, and once you hear some of the sounds you can get off the net to put onto it, its a great deal at 400 dollars. My opinion is that it is probably nothing like an Andromeda at all, but it is a workhorse indeed. My one complaint would be that the osc's sound pretty thin, but you can always fix that with detuning and unison.

Another thread returns, zombie-like from beyond the grave...

Zon's tracks are awesome. I was at his place last month where I got a sneak peak at his upcoming (and very modular-heavy)album. Neat stuff.

The Dotcom has MIDI interface modules and can indeed respond to velocity. A voltage is a voltage is a voltage, so there is no reason why ribbon control, aftertouch or anything else might not be used. I even use a Theremin w/CV outs to play mine sometimes.

The andromeda is my favorite modern analog.

I'm surprised no one suggested the Poly Evolver in this thread...

Don't do it my way.

They probably would but Dave Smith was only 12 when this thread started!

I like the Ion. I played it for about an hour in GC and liked its sounds. I'd take it over the micron anyday.

they are identical except the interface though... (to my knowledge.)
