Nice, this song brings me back to the days of the Lava Lounge in Hollywood on La Brea Street, and strangely a silver disco ball has appeared over my head and I am suddenly surrounded by mirrors, neon ceiling trim and white vinyl furniture, while tersely edited movie clips of Prodigy and Front 242 are being projected on the wall above the smoke machine.

But seriously, great work here. How you got Fathom to function as an 80's drum machine is beyond me, but I love it. Also some very interesting magic using only mono, it sounds like at least two tracks, clever.

You wont hold out long, the upgrade is less than one dollar per voice.

Fathom 1.0.13 is now released! :phones:

Lots of cool stuff in this release.

Expandable Bezier editing.
Wave table oscillator can now use the Bezier curves.
Added note velocity and after touch as modulators.
Added Glide-able Noise.

Fantastic. Excited to try out the velocity modulation.

Thanks

How to create a “Sharp” saw.

So, many of you have discovered that Fathom only goes up to 128 partials.

I just had a question about how to get a sharp saw tooth out of Fathom with frequency content all the way up to the Nyquist of 22K at a 44K sampling rate.

I plan on changing this soon so the saw goes up to 22K, but there's also a work around.

I had completely forgotten about a feature I added which enables you to do this, and it works if you are willing to tolerate a little aliasing.

Add a Wave Draw oscillator.
Go to the Bezier page and toggle Wave Type to Bezier.
Then hit Expand (if you have version 1.0.13).
Create a mathematically perfect sawtooth like in the diagram below.
I used three envelope segments with all straight lines.
And I also placed the edge in the middle just to make it easier to manage.
Set Filter Frequency up to 20000.

Then set the toggle “Play Waveform” to “Raw Samples”.

This will play the waveform without rebuilding it from sin partials. It just literally plays what you draw.

The spectrum is not pretty and you will get some aliasing.

But it will be sharp!

Hi , I just tried your small walktrough above and saved the preset, when I recall the preset the “Play Waveform” is reset to "Sin partials" in stead of “Raw Samples”.
Bug or feature ?

I really enjoy this modular beast :D

EDIT : Also it does not display the preset name I have given it in the top bar..

Post

Yes, those are both bugs! Thanks for finding them.

I will make sure they are fixed in the next release.

Hi,
Dumb question: where can I find the version number once I've updated my install?

Post

Hover your mouse over the top title bar to the right of the "FATHOM" logo,
and the current version number will appear.

It use to be there all the time but I got tired of removing it when taking screen shots
and making the video, so I made it mouse over only.

I can put it back if people like seeing it there.

I'm spending the day reading through all feature requests and noticed this item.

Sagin, and some others had requested an easier way to add pitch bend.

So in 1.0.13 I added pitch bend to the quick note modulations along with velocity and after touch.

So for any oscillator you can, click on Pitch Fine, Add Mod, Select Modulator, Note and Keyboard, Pitch Bend.

Then your pitch will follow the PB wheel.

Great update, I have some small bugs to report:

- Wavedraw: under tab Oscillator the number of partials is 64. Goto tab Wavedraw, number of partials is 128. Tweak the dial, you'll notice it wasn't 128 but 64.
- Wavedraw: goto tab Waves, click on tab Wavedraw or Bezier. Nothing happens for Wavedraw, Bezier does show it's parameters but i'd expect to go back to the waveview instead of still seeing the browser view. How it is now I need to click on Waves tab again to close the browserview.

PS: The bezier wavedraw option combined with FM and some distortion is awesome, it's so easy to create killer bass sounds...

Edit :
I loaded a project of mine in FLstudio, and noticed what came from Fathom sounded really lo-fi / bitcrushed or so.
After clicking on the item, Fathom opened and after loading the GUI ( and probebly samples or so from an audio component ) the correct sound came back. I added a video where you can hear it in action. Can understand GUI only loads after opening the VST, but sound stuff should be loaded at load of the project.

Preset used, my own which you have Everett: SawPulsePWMbass

Edit2:

Aarrggg, my preset PulseFM (new) is ruined after the update haha... the pitch is going up and down or so, totally inharmonic

Post

OK, I'll fix these for the next release.
