Everyday it does a safety net job.
Should I be using a better end-of-line channel plug?
What freeware do you still consistently use?

I don't own any payware (unless you count Reaper's built-in effects). Why would I when there's plenty of freeware that will do everything I need?
So for instruments Synth1, Dexed, Oatmeal, Plex and Tone2 Firebird about cover it. I do have some magware but the only one I use regularly is the CM version of XILS-3.2. And yes some of those are still 32bit but Reaper's bridging is excellent.
FX I use mainly the Reaper stuff plus Spaceship Delay, SPAN and lately one or two from the Dead Duck set (largely replacing some from the Melda free set).

payware isn't better than freeware. its just different.nickamandote wrote:Why use freeware when they are so many cheap awesome plugins available today??
people will never get it through their tiny shit brains
that they just make different sounds. Its like the
idiots that say, "this or that sounds dated"
sounds are bad or good depending on how
they are used, dimwits. This is assuming
that we are only talking the sound aspect.
in many ways freeware is better in that you
dont have to deal with dongles, copy protection
and many times installation BS. just drop the
dll in a vst folder and go for most freeware.
but whatever gets the job done for you, use it.
Charlatan, Elektro, Oxe, Synth1, Dexed, Pg8x, Sq8L
I list these because they have proven to be reliable, capable and
easy to make the sounds i like.
oh and shortcircuit has always been my goto free sampler.

I'd still rather spend a few seconds pasting a serial if it means i get a much higher quality product, which it does.

i'm sure you can defend this point without being mean
unless your parents are vst developpers,
and freeware means you don't eat

I discovered tons of great free software over last year:
- TAL Chorus LX
- Adam Szabo's Phazor
- Panagement
- Spaceship Delay
- SuperSpread
- Acon Multiply
- Roth Air
- Transpire
- Signalizer
Also, still use GClip, SlickHDR and Audiocation Phase.
Use them over and over and will continue so.

I'll play.
Melda Free FX Collection
Dead Duck Collection
Air WIndows (Iron Oxide, ToTape, BusColors)
SPAN
TDR Kotelnikov, Nova
Signaltonoise Abstract Chamber, IRDust
Bluearp
TAL Chorus, Tal Reverb 4, Noisemaker
InserPizhere Midi Monitor, Midichordz, midisimpleLFO (and a some other stuff as well)
Limiter No6, Molot
A good portion of the CM Plugins if you want to count those as free (Barricade CM, Dune CM, VPS Scope CM,KirnuCM, BazilleCM, CurveCM, RGMutedCMm CamelCrusher, OhMyGod, ZebraCM)
Also got Z3ta+, Rapture & Tone2 Bifilter from there as well
TX16WX
Synth1
FreeAlpha
Cyclone
PG-8X
OBXD
Charlatan
SQ8L
And a lot of other payware I got for free as well from various promos (Nomad Bus Driver, Eventide Ultrachannel, etc)
I don't see a problem with freeware. Most of it is limited, but sometimes limits are good for the brain (& the CPU).

Span, SlickEQ, Molot, Thrillseaker VBL & LA, Limiter No.6, Ferrict, Tal Dub, TDR Comp, Softube Saturation Knob, Voxengo Tube Amp and bx_cleansweap. Some of this stuff will be replaced after the Fabfilter and Soundtoys Sales. But a lot of this stuff works and i use it from time to time, except of Span, thats always on every Channel.
Since i purchased Serum and Uh-e Ace (for a small coin) i dont use any free VSTi anymore, but if i were on lowbudget i would definitly use Charlatan, Tal Noise Maker and TyrellNo6!
