Hi
I guess this is 'old hat' to many but for what it's worth these are my thoughts on the matter:-
If you will allow a metaphor:
If Zebra 2 is the world, then Serum is one of the five continents; very beautiful, very interesting and rewarding to visit and frequent, but nevertheless a portion of the ‘whole’. A beautifully executed portion , but still a portion. Yes it can do FM and additive as can Zebra2 but Zebra’s routing, modular architecture , modulation and analog options are vastly wider.
Serum is an exposition of a genre of synthesis (wavetable) rather than the behemoth modular thing that Zebra is. It is gorgeous but it’s nothing like as deep as Zebra2.
One is not better than the other, they’re just different. It’s like comparing candy with vegetables; each has their role in our diets, some people have a sweet tooth some are ‘healthy’ vegetarians.

Not to mention that they sound nothing alike. Kind of like pointing out the obvious, but okay. No arguments from me.

Some synths are just islands concerning this poet‘s metaphor...

So is this a thread about describing synths metaphorically ?
Well, I like comparing synths with girls
Zebra
Serum
