Crystal is a semi-modular software synthesizer featuring both subtractive synthesis and frequency modulation (FM) synthesis. It offers abundant modulation control with over 90 parameters which may be modulated, multi-stage envelopes with graphical editors, extensive tempo sync of envelopes/lforates/delay times, built-in effects for chorus/flanging/comb filtering/echoes, and a band splitter for effects processing by frequency band. (Idea credit goes to L-Ectrobit).

Oh, Crystal!
Cool choice
But: Hundreds of parameters to control :o
Even modulated modulations can be modulated :?
Maybe there are some nice presets in the world wide web

Post

Another one I've wanted to learn, very excited about this selection, hopefully time eases up for me.

Post

Well this is an odd duck.

Post

Cool :tu: . Time to make some noise :phones:

Post

Guys, you can update the freebie from us to: Wusik Station V9, Wusik 8008, Wusik SQ200 and Wusik P2000.

Cheers, WilliamK

On the download site go to "patches" in the upper menue, hundreds (if not thousands...) of patches, there are some great ones (dont remember exactly which ones), even some legendary Tim Conrady ones. This is a great choice, maybe I join this time.....seems I come back to this synth regularly evry some years, it is just out of time :-).

Post

Great choice. This should be fun!

Post

Nice synth/sampler/rompler! (I guess?)

Have never heard of it or used it, but just downloaded and will participate in this OSC.

Everybody good luck and have fun :)

Post

Just be careful with soundbanks with respect to BJs note:
bjporter wrote:Note: To keep things simple and within the spirit of the challenge, please use synthesized oscillator types only. No sound fonts / samples.
e.g. The Tim Conrardy patches use the sample ROM which is not permitted :D We have to work harder than that :) There is plenty to explore in this synth with just the synth oscillators, imho :hyper:

Post

You are sure ? For me these presets and the included soundfont bank is part of the synth.

bjporter please comment, for me this would tear out the heart of this synth.....

little addon: if this is really the case I am glad you did not choose one of the H.G. Fortune synths (for example...) to use WITHOUT the included soundfonts....sorry, for me this just sounds ridiculous...

Post

Pretty sure, it says this on the Crystal website:

Tim Conrardy Patch Banks
These banks contain patches created by Tim Conrardy. These patches use the Crystal 20Mb Sample ROM. If you haven't already installed the sample ROM, see the download instructions on the Download page and follow the "optional additional steps" to install the sample ROM.

...Which seems pretty clear with Brian already saying what he said ("please use synthesized oscillator types only. No sound fonts / samples.")

..But I could be wrong :) It happens everyday

I'm loving this synth with just the synthesized oscillator types already myself 8)

If you, like me, got troubles with the size of the plugin window and can barely see a thing, here's a solution I use: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... -magnifier :)

Post

Now that's a blast from the past! I used to be obsessed with Crystal back in the day when I went legit and lost Absynth.

I've always liked synths where you adjust modulation by min and max values rather than setting the base and then the amount.

edit: And the voice copy/paste function under the utility drop-down is super useful.

Sweet - the shortcut keys are useful. I just got progressives, and the UI is still way too small.
