fuzzy analog bass and synths??

Hi on a lot of songs there is this really cool fuzzy bass or fuzzy analog synth sound. How are they getting that fuzzy sound on there. Is it just distortion? If so what kind and what amount. I think the filter envelope must play a large part here too.

For example check out the song Enchanted Waters Ayleon Remix or Endor Radio Edit. Or Electric Sheep by Orphyd. listen for the bass synths.

Listened to the Orphyd track and the way I would approach this is by using a filter envelope with a slightly slow attack and a waveshaper. Keep the resonance a bit low, where I would normally put that a bit higher if in combi with distortion, but this gives a more harsher, overdriven sound.

Here a quick example I made with using this in Repro 1 using the Jaws wavefolder to achieve this.

When you say fuzzy I'm thinking its a variation of a Saw Bass, with effects, eq ect
