im trying to recreate that sound for... ever. even when i come close its just not good enough (even if the "color" is almost right i cant get the rest right expretion maybe?). and i havent found any similar presets either.
i have reason 3, fl 5 with sytrus, the arturia emulations, fm7, pro53, and the korg legacy.
anyone could give me a starting point or even a small step by step guide how to make this patch?
sorry for not including a sample but i guess everyone has heard of this. ill see if i can upload one l8r tho.
thanx.

Have you tried Superwave P8 ?
http://www.kvraudio.com/get/708.html
Its free and comes with some 'Oxygene' presets, including one for IV which sounds quite good to me (though would possibly be better without the added whooshing noise - no doubt could be edited so)
Well its a great free synth VSTi anyway

I was just listening to him here. Oygene, Equinoxe and Magnetic Fields anyway, he always seemed to get a nice balance between the sharp saw stringy sounds and the dull background stuff. There'll be a period where it's moody and blunt-sounding, lots of reverb and atmospheric bells and whistles, then it clears away like clouds and in comes some saw that soars into a melody. Plenty basic delay effects too.

I read somewhere (think it was on the Jarre.net forum) that JMJ used a lot of flange on the chorus lead, fast flange that is.
However, I think you may have to venture into additive synthesis in order to recreate this sound.

Thought I would cast a small stone into this discussion...
That's a pretty basic patch, really. The secret is more in the effects and not so much in the synth imo. I think you have some good suggestions so far.
Also, try grabbing the Kjaerhus free phaser.
