You have sold all your synths and have no money to buy gear the next 10 years. However, a runaway space cadet with a Santa Claus complex insists on buying you either JU08 or the minilogue or he will spoil your Christmas for life. Which one would you choose and why?
Oh, Minilogue for sure. Everything I've heard from the Boutiques so far sounds good to me, but about as good as Diva, (and in the case of cross modulation on the JP08, not nearly as good) and considering the crap interface I'm not sure what the point is. The Minilogue, on the other hand, seems like it would be fun to play with.

Really? It sounds like attack on Diva (pun not intended). Diva sound noticeable better in any aspect of synthesis, except chorus emulation.
Murderous duck!

I don't mean it to be an attack on Diva. I haven't heard the Boutiques in person or put them side by side... (Not sure why no one seems to have done this) but the Boutiques didn't sound bad to me in the recordings I've heard. Except for, as I mentioned, the cross mod.

Of course, Diva is far ahead in so many ways other than sonics. Healthy modulation system (though I wish he'd add an extra LFO and EG). Realistic polyphony. (It's 12 voice, eh) Multiple component models. (Minimoog, MS20, SEM, JP8000, etc) Honestly, unless you're dead set against computers, I can't think of a reason to buy a Boutique to your set up. I guess they're cheap, but when I think of my old XV5050, you can buy one used for half the price of the JP08 and while not a VA, is a really great machine for a ROMpler.

I said this before, but I'll say it again. I think Roland's struck gold on their AIRA tech. Then then took that gold, refined it and used it to plate a bunch of tin. Every AIRA including the Boutiques (maybe especially the Boutiques) seems to have some crazy flaw. Low voice count, low pattern memory, tiny interface, etc. The only AIRA that seems good to me so far is the System 1m. I bet that with the System 100 plug out is a beast. The System 1 synth didn't do much for me, but since they added the extra wave forms it seems a lot more interesting. Other than that, I'm hoping Roland is working on putting that ACB tech in something serious. I think they figured out how to model their analog synths, but they can't seem to put that modeling into a good product. Even the plug ins seem oddly flawed when you look at Diva. For $179 you're getting a whole bunch of great modeled components that you can mix and match. Roland wants $200 for that System 1 synth. WUT?

The System-1M is by far the best selling AIRA for us. I think the Boutiques have nice interfaces, they're a lot of fun to play with.

That's really quite fascinating. I would have guessed the lowest selling.

I bought my JP08 from JRR Shop. I think it is fun to play with, and sounds pretty good. I dont find that I am using it all that often though. That may change some day.

If I were to buy anything from the Aira or Botique lines, that would be my choice.

Interesting.

My logic is as follows:
- TR8: 808/909 end of. Top of the tree IMO.
- TB3: ditto. And cheap.
- System 1: cheaper than the 1m and with keys, albeit cheap ones.
- VT1: cheap enough to be an impulse purchase
- MX1: quite specialised and essentially requires one or more of the above.
- 1M: most expensive of the bunch and quite niche with the modulation/CV possibilities.

The System-1M is a semi-modular and, AFAIU, it turns all its plug-outs into semi-modulars, as well. It slots right into a Eurorack, making it a very cost effective way to add a bunch of extra modules to a Eurorack system.

Just bought the other two 8)

This is despite me owning an original 106. They're so cute I need them all.

Besides you've not experienced heaven unless you've had ~20 devices all running off a single MIDI clock, triggered by one single play button.

So... can it do anything Diva can't do for half the price and with full polyphony ? 8)

As good as Diva is it struggles being 3D (and not metaphorically).

First valid reason for buying synth I have read in a long time.

No delusive tech-specs-emulate-this-and-that-with-midi-control-up-your-ass-rationalizations but a plain and simple "Me waaant" :tu:
