Comparing Casio PX-5S to Komplete Kontrol S88 as keyboard / controller

I'm in the middle between these 2 keyboards. Would love some momentum to one side or the other if anyone has had experience with both and would care to comment.
I want weighted keys. Software integration is a plus. I feel I can use the Casio as a controller for my soft synths just fine. I'm not getting it as a "stage piano". I'll be using it mainly as a studio composition controller keyboard. I'm leaning slightly towards the Casio due to so many hardware and software problems people have been reporting.
I do wish the K board Pro from McMillen was a reality now. That might be the top choice for me but not knowing when it *might* be released is making me think about other options.
thanks...

S88 has aftertouch (making it one of the few 88 key controllers that do), px5s doesn't
Also make sure you try both - I had a look at a px560m at the weekend (like you with the intention of using it as a controller), action was pretty nice but the pitch/mod wheels seemed to be an after-thought, small and didn't feel good to use (mod wheel was draggy/rough feeling when moved).

I often end up remapping whatever AT is controlling to expression pedal instead - too many keyboards have terrible AT ( huge amount of force to initiate and then hard to modulate with any level of finesse). Haven't tried the s88 yet so don't know how good/bad/indifferent it's AT implementation is though.killmaster wrote:yeh, damn. Wish Casio had aftertouch. I actually use it.
Wish the VAXmidi was available retail - it seems to be the only really good design out there (decent polyAT implementation)

The Casio has better action but the Kontrol S has the features you are going to need so I would pick up the later.

Thanks everyone! I really wish KMI would release the K Board Pro 4! I saw a video of Keith McMillen talking about releasing it around Q2 of this year so I'm hoping it will be soon. Of course that doesn't necessarily mean anything at all and could be at the end of next year! That thing looks amazing and in some ways I would cover all I need and also allow for MPE!

The PX-5S is primarily a stage piano. Along with no aftertouch, neither of the pedal inputs can accept expression/continuous control pedals (according to this review):

I have been eyeing this one for quite a while now. It even has polyphonic aftertouch.

This does sound like a contender! Feels like its time to wait some more and check these out once they are in circulation. And check out the X board Pro 4 too. and see what improvements there may be to Komplete Kontrol software integration, then decide... Almost feel like the PX-5s is out at this point considering the offerings of these other controllers...poonna wrote:I have been eyeing this one for quite a while now. What kind of software does the Casio option include?
The Kontrol S88 ships with Komplete 11 Select (Scarbee Mark 1, The Gentleman, Vintage Organs + Massive and Monark and some other stuff)

That's correct - it's the reason I was looking at the px560m - it does have an expression pedal input (and a much larger display). Same 'hex layer' synth engine as the 5s too. Casio really needs to hire a decent designer though - the aesthetics of the 5s and 560m are terrible (if casio ever wants to break back into the 'pro' market they need to ditch the home keyboard looks)flugel45 wrote:+1rod_zero wrote:The Casio has better action but the Kontrol S has the features you are going to need so I would pick up the latter.

Why does it have to look so ugly. It looks a lot cheaper than it costs
