FR - Add psycho-acoustic prefiltering to MXXX Follower

Vojtech, can you please add this option to the advanced settings of the Follower module in MXXX. I'm using the module for smoothing out control signals and having it be frequency aware would help...
Thanks!
Also, is there a reason it is not an option in spectral dynamics? I can imagine it could be useful to focus more on frequencies the ear is sensitive too. I know we have the ability to tailor the threshold curve but it would be quicker and easier to just use this setting. Thanks!

True, but it's nothing else than a specifically set up equalizer, so you can just place something before the follower fx . I'd rather avoid adding it really, I don't remember why it is not there, but there must have been a reason .

True. With that in mind, can you include a 'psycho-acoustic filter' to the EQ presets please. It doesn't currently exist so I'm sort of shooting in the dark a little. I did some searches for the curve but couldn't find anything that didn't look like the classic Fletcher Munsen, which is difficult to translate into a normal EQ curve:

Well, that might be a problem . I'll see.

Just a heads up in case anyone else cares about this... i noticed you can listen directly to the psycho-acoustic pre-filtering effect via the sidechain on the dynamics plugins by listening to the sidechain and having the option enabled. So using this, i used the auto-equalizers and some white noise to reverse engineer the equalisation curve. If anyone's interested I have 10 band, 6 band and Freeform presets that recreate the filter.
Here's the six band, for use in MDynamicEQ
Again, the goal here is that you can drop an EQ with this preset before a follower module in MXXX and the follower will respect the human ear's reaction to frequencies. Not many people will use this, but I'll find it useful

Not many people will use this? I dunno, maybe nobody has ever thought of doing this before. Very clever idea!vectorwarrior wrote: Again, the goal here is that you can drop an EQ with this preset before a follower module in MXXX and the follower will respect the human ear's reaction to frequencies. But question: to properly respond ala Fletcher-Munson, you would need a dynamic EQ mapping, right? The F-M curves are level-dependant - they get straighter (the dip in the middle gets more shallow) as things get louder, so I would think that any old EQ wouldn't be an accurate response (although it might be adequate for many situations).

Yes absolutely. I did put in a feature request for exactly that a while ago but vojtech didn't like the idea. I tried looking up the data as it would be easy to build a dynamic equalizer with a few banks of snapshots that morph between them as amplitude increases, but I couldn't find any solid data other than some uncalibrated graphs.

But that data changes depending on the spl of what comes out of the speakers, so there's no way for the plugin to predict that, you have to dial it in manually and hope you can recognize spl well. And besides weren't those tests done with a pure sinewave?

Yes to all that, it would only be an approximation, but it would be interesting to try. You could use it to over emphasise the effect to give the impression the sound or dynamics are louder than they are.

Copy the above text and then in a melda plug paste that into something. In the above case, open an AutoDynamicEQ and hit the paste box in the bottom right of the plugin. I love these tools that copy/paste data as text, so awesome for sharing data like this.
