Currently our plugins provide hundreds, or even thousands of automatable parameters. That causes problems with some buggy hosts such as Live, and in many others it complicates workflow. It also makes maintaining automation backwards compatibility while adding features rather complex. Big part of the automation parameters is related to modulators and MIDI, which is something rarely useful at all.
Therefore we propose a change for most commercial plugins - removing the automation as it is now, increasing number of multiparameters to 100 and improving the existing active presets to exploit the potential of these plugins more. Therefore all features would be kept intact, but automation would be possible via multiparameters only. Creating more powerful multiparameters could keep most daily processing needs on the easy screen, while those of you, who need the super-deep features, could go to the edit screen whenever needed and the only limitation would be, that to automate anything from within the host itself, you would need to use the multiparameters.
This change wouldn't affect plugins such as MAutoDynamicEq and MAutoAlign for example, because these are mostly used from the edit screen itself or don't have the easy screen at all. Similarly, free effects wouldn't be changed either. MIDI & modulator automation would be removed however to minimize the number of automatable parameters.
Note: It is not possible to run multiple versions of the plugins on the same computer. Therefore if you are using automation, you would need to switch to the newest version after finalizing your existing projects.

MAutoDynamicEq has an Easy screen here, and several Active Presets
Can I be clear, with an example?
Here are the 810 VST parameters (Oops, I missed off the last 200) for the 10.07 version of MAutoDynamicEq:
(a) With the new system there will be 100 VST parameters, one for each of the 100 Multiparameters (MPs),
(b) will all the 1010 (+ new ones for the new MPs) parameters still be available internally?
(c) or will the parameters for the Modulators and MIDI Controllers (84-99, 104-107, 124-371, 408-663, 666-1009) be removed completely?
(d) will internal parameters for the 100 MPs be available (currently, there are 4 MPs with parameters 108-123, 372-407)?
(e) can any of the 'internal' parameters be assigned to any of the 100 MPs?

Is it correct that you want to do more than just remove backward compatibility, but "removing the automation as it is now." So, will Melda plugins no longer report all parameter values to the host??
My DAW lets me group my own multiparameters from parameters that the plugin reports. That is much more simple and clear than Melda groupings.

Basically it's okay to me. I am also curious about the answers of the questions here though.
1. Especially if MIDI input would be totally gone after this update?
2. What about MRhythmizer? I use MIDI input to select a sequence so that I am able to controll the plugin via MIDI input only.

But you can just attach ANY parameter to a Mulitiparameter and then that will be available instead.

Yes there will be a little extra work. However the gain is huge, as we will not have to worry about backwards compatibility anymore. As changing the ranges of parameters will no longer break peoples automation as the automation will stay the same when attached to the multiparameter.

There will also be new presets and old improved presets. So maybe for some plugins there also will be default presets with 100 MP already linked to the most important ones? Oh no.
I use Melda for audio post professionally.
Removing the chance to load and play old sessions would be a nightmare for me.
When choosing plugins for my projects I often think, I could do this with plugin X (small company like Melda) or plugin Y (bigger company like Waves/iZotope). I often chose the smaller companies' solution because I find them better most of the time, but I have encountered situations when I thought I'm going to stop buying from small developers. I cannot "afford" this anymore. What if they stop development or change things so drastically that old sessions become incompatible too soon.
To be more specific: I have just finished a production phase of 20 half hour episodes for TV that will be broadcast between now and in 16 months. It would not be a new situation to find that somebody has died or the political situation has changed and I would need to change the sound of a scene in i.e. 16 months quickly.
It would be very inconvenient to say the least to have to find out that all of the melda automation from the projects has died. Of course I could just stop updating my systems, but there still are new features I really die to see in my DAW (Nuendo). I use this thing 8 to 10hrs a day and I really like new features sometimes.
I have to admit that the worst problems I encountered like this were Steinberg related when Wizoo was bought by AVID and development of many Steinberg distributed plugins stopped.
And yes, I have bounces of all stems and I could go back to them, but it is the kind of thing that makes me rethink my workflows. Maybe I'll stop using too many boutique plugins and just go with the often inferior "industry standards" for compatibility's sake.

Oliver.Lucas: I understand. But I wouldn't recommend to go for the bigger companies. If you think about it, they don't update much, if at all. So there's no point in that anyways. As for our situation, not sure yet, perhaps some compatibility mode... but that would be a nightmare to keep track on. We'll see, maybe it wouldn't be that hard.

I think it will just be automation that is affected and not saved states, but I'm not completely sure.

No no, everything will be fine, all settings will be kept intact, the only problem is automation lanes, so whenever you automated something, the automation track would probably be attached to some other parameter, depending on the host, so you'd need to change that, potentially via a multiparameter. Anyways, it seems that the poll proves that people don't like the idea too much, so I'll have to come up with some alternative solution.
