hi,

first of all, hats down, guys, to what you're doing here. I browsed this forum and learned a lot from you. now I would like you to check my music here
http://filebahn.com/host/files/651/rabbit_habit.mp3

i'm looking for your opinions about the sound. i kinda mixed it and mastered, but i own really bad monitors so it is not possible to master it better. tell me please any suggestions about mixing and/or mastering this song.

thank you

hey ...
the composition is a tad vanilla , for my tastes , but is quite well done ...

as to the mix ...
overall , i think the bass needs to be pulled back a tad ...
the solo horns come off weak , and too far back in the mix ...
didn't care for the sound of the 'sax' , or 'trumpet' ...
the section horns sound good ...
the drums need a little eq , to bring up the hats ...
the drums would also benefit from some panning separation ...

without knowing how you made this , it's difficult to be more specific ...

welcome to KvR ...

I think normal's mix comments are spot on and I have to also agree that the composition sounds well done, but it's not really my thang.

This really *is* my thing. :D

As for mix in general, too "boomy" for me: roll off the bass EQ and kill the reverb.

But the notes are the important thing, and they're good ones. ;)

WAIT A SECOND...

I just realised that I still had some effect processing on my winamp while I was listening, left on from doing some sound-design for a film to make music sound like it was playing in a boomy club.

So once I turned that off: WOW! I like this even more. Bass and reverb are fine for me now.

Great stuff. I'd be happy to have done something this good!

I agree. I totally enjoyed this track. I have crappy monitors as well so it sounded just fine :D

Love the groove from about 1:50 to 2:34.
Nice use of trombone in the brass section - gives it an authentic big band feel. And the the theramin-type lead is inspired for this type of song.
For me, the bass should either be an authentic upright or something completely electronic like a sine wave, sub bass thingy.
For some variation in the piece it might be nice to have the band drop out and leave some solo Latin piano... just a suggestion.

thank you,
see, this is the problem for example with the bass. i've choosen this bass because on my monitors (which are really shitty ones) it sounds good. some solo instrument would really help it. but i'm not capable of that. i make all solos using my notebook keyboard (bome's mouse keyb :)).
thanx again for suggestions

I definitely have to listen to this on real speakers. Through the crappy little ones in the family laptop, where I happen to be sitting, my reaction is: very nice work. Can't comment on the bass, because I don't hear any on this unit :) but the rest of it sounds good. Nifty piece. I'll try to give a listen on better speakers and add real comments.

Just listening to it and my first impression is very positive. I must say that I'm also not sure if this bass is the right one for this song... I would also agree that bass needs to be pulled back or just a different one would do the trick....don't know really

...anyway this is a nice song, good work.
welcome to KvR and I want to hear more from you.

hey,
sanguin: are you sure it was the music that your wife liked? :)
about producing this> i work in reason, so all sounds comes pretty much from rfl samplebanks, or if not, i often use Recycle to import any samples to reason and play with it. about trumpets, yes i also thing this is the best playing instrument because it is chronic horns samplebank from where i've taken it. it needed some changes, cut here and add there. so that's it.
according suggestiong , this weekend i'll be working on the bass sound and maybe i'll substitute it for accoustic bass.
if you want to hear more from me i'll write www
