Recorded on ADATs (and the good old BRC).
Let me know your impressions. The mix is a little rough, so keep that in mind. The sliders weren't automating like they should (for some reason the Mackie board wasn't hooking up quite correctly to the timebase on the BRC or something), so I was moving them in realtime while recording onto the CD recorder.
Yes, the sax player moves around a lot. It's times like those when you wish you had one of those clip-on sax mics.

I actually did only the engineering for it. I purposefully wanted to make a recording in which I do not play.
I'm going to mess around with the mix some more when I get time. The drums actually sounded better (wider, more natural sounding) before I tweaked with them.

A good listen, but I'm not digging the sax player on this.
The bass seems kinda lost...it cuts it, but doesn't ring with any kind of creativity.
As far as the mix goes, it sounds pretty good. The drums could use some tweaking to bring them up front more imo. Cool peice thanks for the listening enjoyment.

Some little post-mix tweaks:
http://www.gregjazz.com/upload/sunset2.mp3
It's going to take another trip to the studio to mix some more. The sax is too loud, and certain things need to be clearer. I should probably just mix the individual raw tracks down to a few CDs and take it home to mix, because I'm getting tired of having slider automation issues with the Mackie.
The interesting thing about this song is that we did two takes of it in "normal" Jazz feel, and then the third take we decided to make it a little more funky. Turned out pretty well for not having that rendition rehearsed.

Hah. Cool little jazzy interlude in the midst of a weirdo KVR playlist session. Nice sounding and playing's not totally without merit... Some very nice moments.

I put the tracks off the ADATs into ProTools, and then email it to myself so I could work on it at home.
Starting to sound a little better, I think.
