Hi guys. Would really appreciate some feedback on this little piece if poss. Mix? Dynamics etc.
A friend is putting together a short movie - 'To Be Confirmed' and asked me to do a very short track for the trailer. Pretty simple but, hopefully evocative enough to carry it...

Thanks P.polyslax wrote:Chris, I think the composition is lovely. Just on earphones here but it sounds like maybe your kick drum is a little hot. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the fretless bass sound. Good luck with the project!
Yeah, guess the fretless is rather a love/hate thing for most people. As for the kick, it's actually enhanced to allow the screenshots of the preview to switch on the beat. Hopefully, when the trailer is done, I'll post it here.
Thanks for the comments.

Chris,
I have to echo polyslax here; it's a very nice piece with great potential. The opening is very evocative and gentle - I can really see this going places I want to join it in.
The kick sounds not too bad at my end. A little heavy perhaps, but nothing major. The fretless, for me too, doesn't do it justice. I don't think it's the instrument per se but the position and result within the overall sound. It's a bit (lot?) muddy when everything's kicking in. To my (untrained and unskilled) ears, it creates a wash in the depths that causes me to really have to concentrate to the music - not effortless.
On the positive side: I liked the guitar sounds; the progression and tune was effective and interesting; and I would certainly want to hear more of the piece as it nears completion.
But hey... what do I know? FWIW... I liked it!

It's nice, but the tuba needs higher mixing.
