..will get a better cello sound later, some minor edits to come, unmastered / unreleased
cheers, sk

As I listen to your stuff it is obvious that you can tell what's important and what's not.....stk wrote:..yeah but... but.. ah to hell with it, you're probably right
Change the Cello if YOU'RE not satisfied with it.
Don't change the Cello just 'cause you suppose others might not like it.
...just my 2 Cents....nice track!

Really impressed by the drum programming. Nice chilled out vibe. What is time signature is this in, something with 13? (Though, of course it changes up a bit every once in a while).
The cello is absolutely fine, to be honest I barely noticed it.
This starts getting really awesome towards the end.

cheers.. yeah see I used this old cello sample from some akai-era sample disc, and i'd really like (among many things, as always) a really nice raspy, upfront, harshly-bowed sound.. but since i can play the cello as well as i can the bassoon, and i don't know if your typical sample vendor specialises in brutalised strings, i don't know what my chances are.. anyway, thanks again for listening, i'm glad you liked it. As an aside, not 2 minutes ago (this is completely true) my enter key ceased working, hence this painfully unbroken paragraph. cheers, sk

most of the more chilled stuff is 7/8 (or 14/8, or 7/4, I can never really tell.. anyway it's a full dropped beat from 4/4). The fast stuff is (mostly) straight 4, and of course theres some fills in there that I won't even begin to try to count.. just keep pianorollin' til it sounds right. again, apologies for this broken enter key, it's f**king embarrassing. cheers, sk EDIT - actually, you're right and I'm stupid, it is indeed 13-something (8?)..icelizarrd wrote:Really impressed by the drum programming. I was a little disturbed by the cello.
Really dig the jazzy feel of this track. That punctuating chord sound is maybe a little too AFX/[]pusher. Actually the punctuating stops kind of break up the flow more than I wish. I like it as you build up some steam, and then move to the slower sections, but I find the faster breaks more disjointed than they need to be. It'd be more manic/frenetic if it didn't freeze every fourth beat.
Still, some cool stuff.

I really love the drum programming as well and the jazzy feel. I also feel that cello is kinda weak and needs to stand out more as you stated before. The track does contain more pauses than I would like, which makes it feel too disjointed. But overall. Really nice effort.

what samples did you use for drum programming?
I think those drums sound amazing!

fabulous! for me, the beat and sound palette make the piece. and its inventiveness, the sense of being surprised over and over by an interesting musical mind.
for me, the cello sound is weak. too dry and chintzy (in terms of the sample) against the other material. wouldn't take much to fix.
