The theme is Pedal Point, and thusly, it shall play a major role in my choices for top ten. I also don't expect it to be hiding in the mix for the sake of more complexity, for this theme is, as a matter of due course, an exercise of simplicity. I'm looking for that methodical feel one gets through endless exhaustive repetition. MindOverMatter is up front in your face Pedal Point, all of it, and it makes for great! internet serfing music, :-) so it gets Pi's Prestigious Perpetual Pedal Point Performance Prize. My hat is off.

1. Emerald Tablet - MindsOverMatter
2. Holymoly -DoYou Wanna Ride
3. Miro - bare
4. Rendelius - Pedalo Brutalo
5. SquakMix - Voice Of Dreamers
6. Zeoy - Naked window
7. D'mast - My Point
8. Jhoski - Pedal Promis
9. Rachmiel - heiemo og nykken
10. Birrbits - Indian Girl

To the other nine, you get the Methodical MindOverMatter award, for being it's closest mate. A resounding clique! You picked up where the other dropped off. That makes you super duper pooper scooper cool! :-)

Applause! aplause! aplause!

There was great temptation to weigh in a tad shy of the theme, by including some fantastic! tunes that would have been top ten in most any other contest , but I assure you, they will fill another top ten in my hard drive, with many migrating their way to a burnt CD for the sake of posterity, and it can't get any better than that. Can it?

THANKS!

So, I was looking for those pieces that had a lot of cool contrary harmonic motion against a pedal, and I think that my picks reflect that. TONS of cool stuff to choose from. No shortage of great artists in this place. Thanks KVR, and everyone for great music!

01 1-2-Many - Newton's Apple

HMs: miro, jamesb, Kara, nikp2000, Barnadine, dwglpuppy, Patrick9, Ixox, mrlargefoot, Pi314, me109, squakMix

Many excellent entries, so it's difficult paring it down. The top 3 were definitely my favorites, but after that it gets much hazier and harder to choose. Top notch work all the way around.

First of all, I want to give a big thanks to everybody that listened to my piece - this is the first month I've participated in this contest and it's been a very fun learning experience :). Second, there have been a ton of great submissions; voting will be difficult for me. My choices for the top ten pieces are as follows:

1) Birrbits - Indian Girl
2) Zeoy - Naked Window
3) Miro - Bare
4) Niko - Brand new pedalboard
5) Oddbodsfinger - Summer Isle boat
6) Core - Rain
7) Kara - At the Movies - Part 2
8) Holymoly - Do you wanna ride
9) Barnadine - Pedlar & son
10) Peppy197 - Ex Astra

A big pat on the back to everybody that submitted this month, I don't think I particularly disliked anything I heard.

Unfortunately, I was unable to open mrlargefoot's submission in windows media player or winamp 5.32 - I'm not sure if this is a problem on my end or his, but as such, I was unable to listen to/rate his piece. I also had trouble accessing farlukar's piece - I got a "page cannot be displayed" messege every time I tried the url. Sorry mates :(

This is really difficult because even though we have the same guidelines to follow, it's nowhere near comparing apples with apples. For example, if every entry were jazz based, or classical or whatever, the number of variables to juggle would be greatly limited, making the voting a lot easier. But, to compare Ostentation with Little Lucy, there are so few similarities that to judge between them is more of a statement of which genre you like more than a comparison of musical and/or production values -
(let alone whether they got the file name in the right format…) :hihi: .
It's a lot easier making the music than it is voting.

1. kara_atthemovies2 - great melody and instrumentation
2. summerisleboat-oddbodsfinger - got that oddbodssound
3. jhoski_Pedal_Promise - Big contrary motion at the end - loved it.
4. core_rain - I'm soaked! Every sound was sopping wet.
5. gag3_WhatsYourPedalPoint- Please tell me the guitar parts are sequenced and not played live
6. petrudamsa_Ostination - Triumphant guitar lines at end!
7. nikp2000-little_lucy - She's immortal now
8. rachmiel_heiemo - Viking tabla players munching on herring
9. Barnadine_PedlarAndSon - Terrific sounds and original music
10.jamesb_denizenOfBleakton - Great treatment of 5/4 - wish I could come up with chords like that.

Honorable mention for Holymoly_DoYouWannaRide, darem_pedalobrutalo and fritzfiedler_macabremice.

I guess my criteria for voting is how proud I'd have been to have produced it.
Looking forward to next time.

This has been SO difficult. For 58 entries to have almost all taken the theme seriously and stuck to it is wonder enough, but for so much wonderful music and even some first-rate songs to come out of this month is unbelievable. It has been a great honour to listen to these contributions and humbling to have to choose only ten. My initial short-list had 35 !

1) oddbodsfinger.- Faultless!
2) kara.- Not my type of music….but SO wonderful
3) jamesb.- Again, NMToM, only spoiled(imho) by overproduction
4) Barnadine.- Some fabulous sounds, and a few that just don't seem to work!
5) Patrick9.- Wonderful harmonies
6) Pi_132.- I told him this was good!
7) slartibartfast.- Great composition and spell-binding production
8 ) Rockstar_not.- Award for bravery
9) sp0rk=splynter.- Usual superb mix of orchestration and dynamics
10) LagunaRising.- Fabulous composition and piano playing

:D
