OK,
I know there are going to be some questions, so I thought i'd post a little FAQ to start things off
Q: Do I have to use all the tracks in the midi file provided?
A: No. You could use even just one track. However, I would suggest that you use the track that's most representative of the midi file
provided. Like the keyboards, or the melody line, if there's one there.
Q: Hey, That's my midi file posted. Can I use it?
A: Yes, that's the prize for winning the first phase of the contest
Q: Can I edit various items in the midi, like velocity?
A: Yes. You may also use any other control agents on the midi file to get you to where you want to go.
Q: Can I clip down the midi file and loop it?
A: Yes.
Q: Can I change any of the notes
A: Yes and no. Changing the key for a section, or changing the key to match your voice is ok. Changing individual notes will be frowned
upon, and could be subject to review, and possible DQ
Q: Can I add some of my own tracks to enhance my comp?
A: Yes. You can add to it as you see fit.
Q: I was thinkin of doin a piece based on thematic development. Can I invert and mirror the midi file.
A: You bet! Make sure the original form of the file is well presented though.
Q: Can I change the meter and or bpm of the midi
A: Yes you may
Q: Can I use an arppegiator?
A: Yes

Thought that was supposed to be a midid file, not a whole song.
As I see the files in Cubase 4 they have 14 tracks already filled out for 4 minutes at 120 bpm.... the first file anyway
So whaty am I supposed to do to that? keep them ALL ??
OK that is answered in the FAQ above\
Good thing I have Sampletank2L this will help indeed
soory

Basically, one would go on organizing how they would set out the project in terms of how exactly rhe 'extraction part' would be done. Cut parts you want, maybe export then resave to a midi then reimport which then you can easily take around whatever you need.

Thanks for file #3, Scoops!
Since I've been campaigning for it, let's see if I can actually do anything interesting with it.

There has not been a single entry yet ???
Usually there are 2 already submitted in the first hours...
Com'on EchoVoodoo you can be the first... go for it.
<<-- little portraits of KVRers trying to fit the midi tracks...
I like file #4 for its avant-garde promise...
will see.

I usually like to submit early, but I don't think I'll get a chance this time. We'll see.peppy197 wrote:Com'on EchoVoodoo you can be the first... go for it.

Jeez, I thought they would be just melodies, not entire tracks. At least we can take what we want from them.
It's more like remixing a song in your own style than taking something raw and making it your own.
Not that I'm complaining This time I don't have to think of a melody to match my drumlines (damn this drumming mind!)
Has anyone else noticed I think in dot points? Or is it in beats, like a drum? Why does this always happen when I catch a cold? How the f**k should you guys know? Why am I still typing?
