This is an arrangement that was rejected from a commercial project I'm working on.
http://www.wusik.com/song.php?id=762
The vocal was recorded unacompanied and I cut it up and built the arrangement around it - normally the vocal would then be re-recorded against the track. I quite like it - betraying my age and musical roots here!
Recorded in eXT, real guitar and Sampletank2XL, Crunchessor, GPP1, Classic Delay, Guitarsuite, Buzzroom RoomReverb.
The song is a traditional welsh folksong and "seren syw" translates as the "fair star".
The arrangement they liked was my usual ambient dance stuff.
Cheers

Superb vocals - must be a great vocalist to do that unaccompanied...
Beautiful music, love the guitar!
The outro isn't bad, but it doesn't give me the feeling the song is truly over - I don't like fade out outro's (although this one isn't bad at all).
Wonderful song! Thanks!

This has a great atmosphere
Don't need to say anything about the voice, do I?
Guitars: Good sound, playing fits very well with the style. Lot of reverb and delay, but it suits the song. Bass sounds good, too. Well defined.
I like the production, it's well balanced.
HiHat gets a bit annoying over time, but that might just be the way I hear it tonight.
Very good song. Thanks for sharing.
Regards,
Tommy

Thanks for the feedback guys.
The singers name is Llinos which is welsh for songbird - pretty apt. We've completed about 9 tracks so far. Should have some sort of release this year. Hopefully I'll be able to let you hear more then.
I'm playing about recording some acoustic guitar at the moment. I'll re-upload if I go with it.
I agree withthe comment re the hihats, perhaps the closed sound is a bit harsh?
Thanks again,
trev

i don't think the hihat is too harsh, but you might want to change up the drum pattern a little more. otherwise, great track, i like the guitar and the songbird as well.

A very nice voice, but honestly, I'm not crazy about the arrangement. At a 1st audition I would say that the hihats spoil the ambiance, but at a 2nd audition I would say to get rid of the whole drums. 3rd audition: the guitar riffs are too repetitive, and the song asks for more synths/strings and less guitar. Don't get me wrong: the sound is clean and professional, but the whole thing is too soft rock for a traditional melody...
Eventually something intelligent will appear written here. Watch this space.

Impressive production. Doesn't sound traditional at all, but I'm sure it's not because the song sux, it's probably just not fitting the profile of the desired mood. Thought the hats are a bit harsh, I didn't think they were bad at all, really.

Great song and composition
The only complaint i'd also have is with the drums , they sound too artificial to me for this type of tune and very "un-rocky" (maybe it's the choice of samples) , and if it would be for my opinion i'd look for a recording of a drummer or samples which can imitate a kind of live or studio feel.
Keep it up .

Comments noted - I felt the drums needed some more work to liven them up. I did play around with the jamstix demo, but could'nt get my head around it? I will post the other arrangement sometime which is very different - no guitars at all!

Hi guys,
I've re-programmed the drums using the NSfree kit in DK+ and added some acoustic guitar.
What do you think?
