Dear Powerful Record Label Executive,

I know your time is important so I won't take up too much. Please listen to the demo of my song "Athens" at your soonest convenience. In less than two minutes, you should get a quick idea of my unique approach to popular music. I use analog and digital electronics mixed with classic rock and country elements that create a mellow harmonious sound I think will probably appeal to some demographic. My composition and musicianship are admittedly modest. I just do it because I love the craft (especially if there's beer involved). You should know that I plan to encourage file sharing and remixing of my work in addition to selling modestly priced eclectic albums. Someone over at KvR suggested this might be a good time to evaluate our mutual business prospects. But I don't want any focus groups, fashionable producers, or cross-market leveraging. This is simply an opportunity for you to capitalize a little by helping me and my friends share what's on our minds. I am confident that if given the chance, I will find a loyal and growing market segment of consumers who are ready for challenging, thoughtful and personal art that tells meaningful stories and nourishes the imagination. I don't suppose my music will make either of us rich, but we can feel good about making an honest buck. Who knows where it will lead? Here's where it starts:

Feel free to contact me and haggle details when you are ready to draw up a contract.

You®s sincerely...

MC Wopelka (The New Man)

Si vous voulez bien me donner ma chance

Rien ne saurait me dégoûter
Pourvu que mon rêve se réalise

Free and quick translation:

I want to go to the Star Ac' (1)
Living in the castle, doing the promo
Singing during the Prime, having the wind up
Dradging the birds with the piano
It's not that I'm talented
But my little mouth is telegenic
And I sing since i am 3 years old
The high school girls were all hysterical

A new star is born: Wopelka, MC Wopelka!

If you are willing to give me a chance
I'll made for you more hits than you can count
My first name will be famous everywhere in France
And my groupies will cry wanting to see me
I'll be nice, super disciplined
8 hours a day for polite interviews
A TV show here, a photo there
For the paparazzi, a scandal each month

I'll sing for starving people in the world
I'll go to the ball in Province
I'll strike the pose in Miss World's arms
And i'll do muscule building to remain slim
A duo with an old star to help their come back
An advert for a luggage brand
Nothing would be able to disgust me
As long as my dream comes true.

For KvR, jump, jump

(1) Star Ac': popular diminutive of the popular Star Academy TV Show. Each year, something like twenty youg girls and boys enter in a castle. in front of the cameras, they have lessons of singing, theatre, dance, etc. week after week they are dismissed one by one and there will remain only one, the new STAR of the Academy...

Record Deal at Audioshots (with wrong date format - might require login)

Record Deal at Tiscali (with correct date format - doesn't require login)

Three layers of crappy guitar through a Marshall amp and loads of effects, a Fender Bass through the same Marshall and another load of effects, drums in Reason with not so much treatment, two vocal tracks with loads of effects. I used Kjærhus and blockfish compressors, Kjærhus and nyquist EQs, Kjærhus Delay, chorus and reverbs, SIR and FinalMix. At least.

I wrote the words. I think they're pretty clear. The second verse is pretty much the same as the first, in case you missed it the first time around.
Both Elvis and Johnny Cash did that, and they got deals...

i'm quite certain 'funereal dirge' is gonna be big in 2005, so here's....

The Contract

lyrics

oh lord! mercy me
a number one song, they decree
should i sell my soul?
should i turn and flee?
if i sing for my supper,
will it satisfy thee?
upon the dotted line they proffer me
all that i find is misery

here comes a candle to light you to bed
here comes a chopper...
...to chop off your head

*xander's Commerical Success Fantasy:
After touring on the road with his 15-piece big band, this song finally put xander on the charts, allowing him to open up his dream club "Musique Noir" on Canal St. in the Big Easy and retire in relative comfort with his girl, Queenie (the one with the major Oriental body art).
:hihi:

So it's my "fantasy" -- OK? (about as commercial as I get)

Slow Down Jackie

In 6/4 & 2/4 --

Slow Down Jackie

Jackie had a problem with Queenie,
His unfaithful wife...

He went up to the pawnshop,
Feelin really low,
And bought himself a knife...

To get up some courage,
He went to Maggie's Bar,
On the way downtown...

With a heartfelt vengeance,
He proceeded to drink,
That whiskey down...

Now Billy loved the queen,
Who worked at the diner,
Slingin hash...

And Queenie loved Billy,
So strong, so handsome,
And loaded with cash...

She told Billy,
That Jackie was comin down,
Lookin for a fight...

So Billy got his gun,
And smiled and said,
"I'll be here all night"...

Two men runnin with the same girl,
Burnin up with hatred and jealousy...

One of these men may die tonight,
This kind of woman ain't worth a fight...

Slow down Jackie, better keep your cool!
Slow down Jackie, Don't you be no fool!

Slow down Jackie, better keep your cool!
Slow down Jackie, Don't you be no fool!
{Two men runnin with the same girl}

Slow down Jackie, better keep your cool!
Slow down Jackie, Don't you be no fool!
{This kind of woman ain't worth a fight}

COASTAL TOWN

A High Llamas/instrumental latter-day Beach Boys/Saint Etienne kind of track that I'm quite proud of. I wouldn't send it to a major record company but I'd probably send it to one of those small independent companies that issue collections of sixties-like/french-girl-pop/melodic pop music like Siesta or Elefant or perhaps the german Marina .

Enjoy. If you don't, there's something wrong with you. :hihi: :hihi:
Oh and that's the first time I'm doing an almost full- time 2minute entry for the comp so be patient. :D
