will scale / pass some filters / efx



for a while i am only using photoshop, and its default filters... do you recommend something else?

One program you could try is filter forge 3, it has a 30 day demo period.
It is a very powerful program and can create some awesome images and has some very powerful image manipulation filters (you can download loads for free as well).

Also if you are into creating your own images instead of filters, I would suggest using something like povray, it is a free 3d rendering engine.

If fractals are you thing then apophysis is a great piece of software.
