Hello,
I'm thinking of buying an audio interface to make my recording quality better, but I'm wondering if it would help.
I've bought a new computer lately and the quality of my recording got considerably worse. I don't really understand why because a all that is changed really is my soundcard and that supposed to be better as well.
I'm recording vocals only with this setup. Can you tell me if it's worthwhile to purchase an audio interface or not?
Setup:
Rode NT1-A mic
Behringer Tube Ultragain Mic 100 (basically this would get replaced)
Dynamode PCI 6 Channel Soundcard (on my previous pc I used the integrated sound card, so even though this is a cheap model it should work better)
The sound is much worse in quality and on higher pitches it sounds metallic. I know a good studio quality Soundcard for thousands of pounds might do the trick bit unfortunately I can't afford it. I'm using asio4all to battle latency problems and it works perfectly. I'm also using Sonar X3.
Thank you for your help in advance.

Yes, an audio interface will be far superior to a 10 dollar consumer interface.
Best option would be to get something like a Steinberg UR22 and plug your microphone straight into that.

Never heard of Dynamode. The basic semi pro cheap audio interface is maudio 2496 :

The thing to consider is whether the Dynamode card is specifically made for musicians. If not, as I've never heard of it either, I wouldn't have my hopes up.
A decent soundcard sold by a music store will last many years, I've had mine for about 9 years, so it's not expensive.

Dynamode is a generic brand out of china that does consumer hardware.Think a Creative Labs knock off feature wise. I really wouldn't be suprised if the onboard solution was a better one. Even an entry level interface with proper ASIO drivers would certainly be a major step up.

This is not always true as you see. Do yourself a favour and buy a semi-pro card like the mentioned UR22 (connected via USB) for your recordings.hegerp wrote:Dynamode PCI 6 Channel Soundcard (on my previous pc I used the integrated sound card, so even though this is a cheap model it should work better)
Keep in mind that you then have also original drivers that are updated regulary (important if you update your OS etc.) thats also not the case with cheap cards most of the time.

This one is on sale right now. Not very expensive, high quality and rock solid:

I don't think so. UR22 had very solid drivers (Focusrite have a few problems here and there and miss midi I/0).hegerp wrote:In the end I'm planning to go with Focusrite Solo. It seems it's even better than the UR22
Also it been said that the preamps of UR22 sound "better" and if you use a dynamic micro you benefit from having "more gain" of the UR22.
Anyway, by any chance i would compare both. If you satisfied with the Focusrite? Great! At least the lady in red looks a little sexier then the UR22.
