I've given up on using the iPad as a sketchpad and would like to use it as a hardware synth engine for Wolfgang Palm's wonderful Synth apps to a PC daw. Is this possible and keep it all in the digital domain, and have low latency?
I am looking for that and more and wondered if anyone in the US had a chance to already test this?

I will be getting one as soon as no issues are present in ios environment.

Where, below the device? Because the front and back don't show audio in/outs, or am i missing something..
Via the USB port. It's class compliant, so I think it just shows up as an audio device on whatever computer it's attached to. If you don't need audio in, this will be an excellent solution for MIDI/audio.

Peace,
Andy.
Now that sounds quite interesting.
How would this work in a live-enviroment though? Eg what would be needed to get that audio into a PA?
If the answer is 'another computer' i'm not sure if this fits my requirements.

Untill now i'm prone to go the digital to DAC instead of the 3.5 headphone connector.
I'm keen on finding an answer soon though as i'm taking the ipad4 using traktor dj into a PA system, and i am not at all confident of the audio out yet.

If you want something inexpensive NOW that is both MIDI IN/OUT AND Audio IN/OUT then look at the Presonus AudioBox. Used with the camera connection kit and a powered USB hub, it works 100% with everything in the iPad.

I just bought a Zoom H6 (will arrive next week) and it also works as a audio interface for iPad. No MIDI, but you can, once again, use a hub and have a MIDI IN/OUT interface along with the H6 (which runs on batteries and does NOT need a powered hub as far as I know). I plan on using this since it is WAY more portable than the Presonus Audiobox, which I also own.

Get a lightning to USB adapter and then from there to a usb hub (powered or not) and then plugin your class compliant usb devices in (powered will be necessary for most devices).

When it comes out, I may be purchasing this:

Too bad it's missing MIDI. It looks SWEET!

Looks like another in a long line of ipad-specific interfaces that are quickly abandoned. Why you wouldn't include a midi connection is beyond me. And that's not the only fatal flaw. I don't understand why companies invest in developing devices that rely on an unchanging form factor of the product they are going to be used with. Not to mention the need to remove any ipad case or cover before inserting it into the Alesis iO Mix.

Tascam almost got it right with the IU2, but failed on the performance side of things. Eventually, someone will come out with an affordable, portable, and functional multi-channel interface for the iPad. I just don't see anything out there yet that gets it right.

As i continue to stumble through a forrest of options i came across the nu-force iDo which in my opinios seems to do the trick of bypassing the ipads dac.

Anyone familiar with this?

Even I have not used it much yet, I am happy so far with my Roland Duo-Capture EX on an iPad 3 with the CCK. It can be powered with 3 AA batteries. But it does not have digital audio out.

For the purpose of performing i've purchased the traktor Z1. I believe the first dedicated controller that includes 24/96 audiocard and hooks up with both the ipad(!) and gives me traktor pro for the desktop machine!
Tuesday the kit will arrive, so i'm rather excited about that.

You need 3 things- RTP driver for wireless midi , Any old audio to USB interface, Any non apple USB to lightning connector.

"Any old" USB interface is not going to cut it. Plenty of USB interfaces require drivers....

I haven't seen anywhere were it says that it comes with traktor. You sure about this? If so I might have to take another look at this thing.

Edit: just checked again and it comes with traktor le, not pro.
