My Yamaha DX7 emulator is now up at the Play Store:

This is also open source software, and, while there hasn't been a lot of community collaboration yet, I am very open to it.

The sound engine is written in highly optimized C++ with some ARM NEON as well. I've tried to design it so that it can be easily ported to other platforms, but I'm not doing much of that myself (except for doing a lot of the development on a Mac, using a stripped down Cocoa shell).

I think what's there now is a fun, playable, and high quality synth, even if simple. I'm having fun continuing to tinker with it and hope to roll out more tone modules and effects over time.

Cool - I'll take a look later on.

You poor Android FanDroids, not much to get, not much to play with, not much of anything :(
Google has their priorities targeted for mainstream users - flashy "home screens", but not much else...
Hey, wake up call...
If you want produce music on your mobile device, look elsewhere - iOS

I think it works very well on the Nexus 7. I hope you keep working on it. :tu:

I have a Android tablet and Apple iPad4, both are fine for music production.. only iOS has the advantage of lower latency..that's all.
You're trolling in this thread.

I find this post amusing, if not abusing.
Wonder whether my advice worth a penny? Check my music at Soundcloud and decide for yourself.

It is funny how people dismiss Android for music making as having run an website regarding Android music applications for about four months I will say that I can gladly report that if you know how to do music there is more than enough quality apps for Android- and would also say that regarding latency it does matter zero when it comes to sequencing type of applications and regarding synthesizers and other playable apps have been using a lot of them for live recording and depending on what app and device you are using have got excellent results...
Anyway anyone that wants to hear what is possible with Android should take a visit at;

Maybe a good start is to listen what people have submitted to the contest.

iOS have more possibilites not arguing there,
but it is funny to say that you can not do serious work with Android.

OK, so I tried it and it works on my Galaxy Fame.

I'd have liked the filter and resonance to be more aggressive, I guess, and the selection of patches reflects the current simplicity of the synthesis in use but it's usable.

I guess it's better to try to have two octaves rather than one -- but the keys were unusably narrow for me, really. Probably OK on a 7" or 10" device. Also, it's got the "simple" approach to orientation problem I've had with other apps. It's idea of landscape is upside down to my preferred usage and it doesn't want to comply with being told which way is "up".

Latency - well, yes, but less than on Windows MME! An alternative, open source Android audio device driver would be nice to have for everyone, of course.

Yes you kind of have to use it on a tablet... small screen is too frustrating.
But hopefully there will be an option to make the keys contract or expand like on some other apps- have great hopes on this synthesizer and there is already in the planning to include a sequencer!

Things are improving (although slowly) in Android. I don't think that Android will catch iOS any time soon, but at least there are some people now in Google who are working in improving the situation for audio apps.

Regardless what Google does with the system, there will always be the issue with hardware. There is an attempt to create a database of audio capabilities (most importantly - buffer size) of Android devices. Look at http://audiobuffersize.appspot.com/ and help to improve the database with running tests with https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... buffersize .
