I am looking to do field recording and I would love to use my iPad to do so.
Tascam and Blue make some great 30 pin mics for pro recording.
In your opinion, what is the best product to field record with the iPad?

My only experience in iPad useable mics is the Yeti by Blue and its multi-pattern function is very nice. The diapragm is pretty good, but not at the same level as other Blue mics.
The Yeti still requires a powered usb hub, but I have made a battery pack to take care of that.

Isn't the iPad a bit too clumsy for field recording?
iPod or iPhone or a pocket recorder seems more up to the job.

For me, the iPad is ideal for field recording.
Long battery life.
Immediate start-up.
Light weight. (especially if it's a mini)
No noise from laptop fan or drive.
Operates exceptionally well on very hot or cold days.
Several interfaces to choose from depending on audio needs.
It's very easy to add a small battery pack taped to a powered usb hub.
My old Lenovo Thinkpad's batteries are too old, too heavy, the fan comes on frequently, and it's difficult to carry around. It would not survive the temperature conditions I record in.
The only negative for me is the weight of the Yeti. It probably weighs more than the iPad, but most other mics are much lighter.
Ideally I would like to use two Rode NT5's on a stereo mic mount, but that would require an interface that supports phantom and can be battery powered.

That looks very cool. I hope the lens mount design is fairly solid. Have heard mixed reviews from the one for the iPhone. (Olloclip)Karmacomposer wrote:I just bought bought one of these:BertKoor wrote:Isn't the iPad a bit too clumsy for field recording?
