ios multitask question can multiple apps recieve midi plus clock? iconnect2+

Check out this scenario, please let me know if it's possible.

I want to hook up an ipad to my mac and have ableton live control the tempo.

If I load up more than one app, can they all receive midi data even though they are not active, but in the background?

I'd like to have loopy recording live loops and maybe samplr in sycn with it, along with maybe another synth.

is this all possible?
