Hi lxm,
I've updated the Hooking It Up page (accessed from the Support page) with more information about powering LinnStrument from iDevices, so please take another look there at Method 2 (powering from iDevice). I suspect either 1) a non-Apple Lightning to USB adaptor, or 2) Apple's USB 3 adaptor that limits current and therefore doesn't work with LinnStrument, or 3) the battery charge at 30%, at which iOS limits supply current to the Lightning port.

I think the order in which you connect stuff is important too. At least for me. I don't remember which procedure exactly works but you have to either:
a) connect USB cable to adapter first and then to iDevice
or
b) connect adapter to iDevice first and then USB cable
One of them does the trick for me. The other one disconnects after a while, complaining about failed device detection or something similar.
