We need a hardware i/o plugin like Logic

I'n not a coder so I don't even know if it's possible so I'm just throwing this out there.Anyone familiar with Emagic Logic knows there's a plugin called the hardware i/o plugin,when called up as an insert,you can choose your hardware's(audio device)inputs/outputs.The obvious use for this is is if you have a multichannel audio device,you can say, loop a hardware compressor through let's say input 8,and output 8,call up the i/o plug and simply choose those ins/outs in the plug.You can then call up that same configuration in other channels because it's an insert plug,thus letting you use your hardware modules as insert plugins(with limitations of course).I imagine this plug would be something like a mini host in VST form that could deal with hardware drivers and i/o.Again,I may be dreaming here but I somehow think it's possible.If anyones game.........
